My boss is getting jealous of my skills at work
I loathe this ****guot.
I work in a big consulting firm and this ****guot Director doesn't bother to show up to most meeting or gets his hands dirty when it comes to getting accustomed with the various clients tools (accounting and consolidation).
However when he start noticing that both the client and the colleagues come flocking to me regarding technical matters or have a knowledgeable opinion, he gets all mad and start evicting me from some important meeting just to be the only one in charge, eventhough he doesn't have a single clue of what is going on and will ask me for clarifications later on.
Wut do misc ?
We already had a clash last week and I had to put him into his place by telling me to get off my back and let me breathe for a moment.

It sucks but what you should really do is make it seem like he knows more than you or praise him as being the person who taught you what you know. I know this sounds stupid but if you want to climb the ladder you have to play the game and if he is a higher level than you I'm sure he would/could have influence in a possible promotion for you.
Playing it the other way will just lead to your boss to start to hate you and then work will be miserable.
Basically you are taking the high road.

Never work somewhere where the boss hates you. They're responsible for helping you progress and develop which won't happen if they don't like you.
Confront him and try to solve/repair the relationship but if not get out of dodge.

I wouldn't think like you are irreplaceable though I thought that at a previous job and quit because I was worked non stop and didn't like my boss. I didn't even give 2 weeks just quit. I'm sure it was hard for my boss when I quit, but ultimately I just fuarked myself over and burned bridges.

Nobody's irreplaceable that I know,but it sure is a pain in the arse to replace someone with several months of knowledge and skills on a very tensed and tight-scheduled project.

That was a problem my father had. When he worked he was very good at sales. He would join a company and double sales within a year. You would think that good, but instead it would make the boss jealous and dad would be run out of the company. My father began somewhat joking to bosses that his only concern is to get his boss promoted. Eventually he started his own company so he could be the boss.

So donโt just quit and think that was the appropriate way to throw your value around.
And donโt go to upper management with an ultimatum either, they are the ones in charge after all.
You need to approach the person above your boss, explain to them you like working their go over all the valuable things you have learned (this should highlight your value) but your your boss is starting to fight with you and make things difficult and you are worried itโs going to sour your relationship with the company and things donโt look like they are headed in a positive direction.
This is a good setup for a later ultimatum if it comes to that. But be reasonable explain how you like them but this is a problem brewing, and see if they can come to a conclusion themselves.

Manage him a little better. Perhaps in the future you can prep him with/do a quick demo with what you plan to cover with the client, or any themes around their questions last time, so that he knows for sure what to expect and doesn't feel threatened.
You can start by asking him about some of these incidents and try to get his perspective on why he does this stuff. There might be some weird political dynamics you're not privy to or bad history that you donโt know about, but more than likely itโs just his issue rather than something that is objectively wrong with your approach. There could be a less tense way of opening up the dialogue, and that usually starts with assuming good intentions and trying to understand where he's coming from. Good luck!

To answer OP, I wouldnt adopt the "my shet dont stink so it must be my bosses issue" mindset, for all we know you have been acting outside of your position without the proper go-ahead or communication. Ask your boss next time their is an issue "What can I do differently to avoid this issue in the future" is a good start. Maybe he is an ass, but I wouldnt get vindictive, more often than not in these situations its been a mix of myself and the other person having a miscommunication and/or misinterpretations.
