Which would you hire?

Man and woman, both 30yo. Equally qualified for the job, both skilled and ambitious.

They wonโ€™t be working directly with you, but for your company in a critical position.

Do you flip a coin?

The man. He will be less trouble and will just do the work without drama.
"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other."-- Carlos Castaneda

Depends on their mentality (ambitious is not enough... I would wanna know how they would react under pressure etc...).

If after talking to them I can't tell who has the better "mentality", then it would depend on the job characteristics.

If job is "neutral" (example: IT programmer - he/she will not have high pressure moments, he/she will not have to deal with the public etc ), then, the man. (cuz no pregnancy)

When you consider all things that should be weighed to determine "qualification" it would be virtually impossible to come out "equal"
One has to have an edge on the other in one of the many factors

Perhaps the decision maker isnt looking deep enough?

IT programming is not "neutral". Often times these programmers will need to work in a team as well as collaborate with other teams to get the software just right.

Please never run a small business if you pick the woman in this situation. Much more likely to be forking out maternity leave pay, and dealing with the absence.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

Next question: you have limited resources for airport security, 2 people are going through security and you can only properly check one of them. One is an old woman, and one is a young middle eastern man. Do you flip a coin?

Hire the woman so you can sexually harass her; plus you'll automatically get to pay her less. Win! Bonus points if you can get her to blow you on Fridays.

The man easily if all else is equal. Iโ€™ve managed enough men and women to know that women are usually more trouble. If they do a good job they usually get too big for their pants and act as if they should be calling shots and controlling others. They also start a lot of drama and snitch on every little thing. Itโ€™s not always the case but more so than men ime.
This body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone.

This. All the problems I had on my previous jobs were with women.

What's autistic is asking a question just so someone else can tell you an answer you want to hear.

I believe someone's ability to work in a team environment is more based on an individual level.

Hehe ok but I never understood the use of time towards pontification of non real world scenarios.

What is the value in these types of exercises? Im seriously open to understanding. My brain just doesn't work that way.

Fun thought experiments on discrimination, highlighting instances where itโ€™s generally rational to discriminate but unfair on the particular individual.

Another example is police stopping young black men more than any other demographic, given statistically higher likelihood of crime.
