ICU is only down 33% and deaths are down maybe 50% from the last peak and those numbers tend to shoot up a little after big case loads, id expect ICU / Deaths to go up significantly

Yeah I'm concerned, too. Even if Omicron proves to lead to fewer instances of severe disease as a percentage of infections, which in itself would be a blessing, that's not the end of it.

For one thing, even if Omicron is less virulent, it is so transmissible that it could infect so many people so quickly that the fraction of infecteds it sends to the hospital could still be enough to brutally **** up our healthcare systems.

For another, Delta is still out there and working through the population in big parts of the country, and probably too many people heard over Thanksgiving that Omicron was just a cold and began indulging in more covid-spready behavior.

Lastly, while all this is going on and possibly taxing the **** out of our emergency rooms and ICUs, breakthrough Omicron infections will be taking out our healthcare deliverers for 5-10 days at a time when they are needed the most.

Things could get very hairy in certain parts of the states.
