Finasteride 'destroyed' his fertility - man's sperm count goes to 0 on the drug

Oh... ****.

Nah, i'm out. **** that **** bros.
https://www.reddit.com/r/maleinferti...a_finasteride/

My husband (33y) and I (34y) had been trying for about 1.5 years and he recentlygot his first semen analysis results back which detected 0 sperm. He saw a urologist who said his physical exam looked normal so they he did bloodwork, which came back with 376 testosterone, 9.2 FSH and 2.2 LH. The urologist was originally suspecting obstructive azoospermia but said since the FSH is a tad high he is now thinking it may be non-obstructive. Also, he said range for testosterone is 300-1000 so my husband is at the lower end of the normal range.

All that said, my husband has been on propecia /finasteride for 10-12 years and from researching it looks like it can definitely affect sperm counts. Research shows the sperm counts can improve after stopping the drug but not 100% of the time. It can take awhile to improve too...seems like anywhere from 3-12+ months. In those studies the men were on it for a lot less than 10 years though.

He stopped taking the medicine a week before the semen analysis. We are waiting another 3 months before he does another one. This next one will be through a reproductive endocrinologist. Hopefully the endocrinologist can help figure out if there are any other issues with hormones.

Anyways, my question is has anyone else experienced azoospermia after taking propecia / finasteride and what was the outcome?

Thanks!

So it was his first sperm test.

So he had no idea what it was before.

So he’s just been sterile this whole time and happened to be on fin and they’re blaming it because it’s easier to blame that then to admit he’s a nospermcel genetically. And his wife is baby crazy and desperate to believe this can be “fixed” somehow.

They wrote that the husband has been on meds for 10-12 years. He's now 33, which means he's been on this since 21-23.

He must've read some misc post about jumping on it when he immediately saw recession.

finasteride been on the market since 1992. Almost 30 years, still no scientific study to show it causes azoospermia.

been on fin for 2 weeks now.

pros - i can see my hairline growing back already srs. babyhairs are basically growing where they didn't before. if this **** grows into actual hair i will have the hairline of a 21 year old prime male. my mood is great, gym lifts are great, energy is great.

cons - watery sperm but i've looked at it closely and it's still spermy. it's just a thinner consistency, no ED i've tried and get a full erection BUT my flaccid dink is smaller and it takes like 10 seconds longer for me to get aroused.

I also have some weird heart pains but i'm not sure if that's FIN related or me just cutting out all junk food and lowering calories causing something funky. Will have to report back on this one.

It's standard to cease fin for like 2+ months before trying for babies. It can causes birth defects if handled by a pregnant woman aswell.. Dudes gonna be a baldcel in no time after coming off after being on it for that long anyway so expect to see a "Not attracted to my husband anymore" post from that user.

lol at the one pathetic study they brought up

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21193189/
Patient(s): A patient with azoospermia who had been taking finasteride (1-mg dose) for 1 year for androgenic alopecia. He had been diagnosed with oligospermia 5 years before.
