Currently laying facedown on 2" of ice, with 40 feet of water beneath me...

Saw where wolves had killed a deer on the ice a few hrs ago while out in the hovercraft. Left work early to try a quick hunt.

Ice is too thin to walk across the channel completely, so I'm 100 yards from the kill, hidden under a white camo sheet on the wide open ice. I walked as close as I dared on the ice before setting up. Parts of it was open water yesterday...

Marina owners close by keep losing pets to these mutts so I'll be doing them a favor.

Hope to put the odds in the deers favor tonight too

Fuk this ice is thin...lol.

I'm filming so you'll either see the hunt on a YouTube episode, or you'll see my final moments when the divers recover the go pro.

Jk, I have floater coat and ice pics. Odds are the wolves or yotes will come in after dark and fuk me over. Oh well, I'll try anyway.

Didn't even know there are wolves in that area. Always assumed you gotta be in the bush WAY up north.

Are they over populated? Not sure how I feel about killing animals just doing what they do in their own habitat. As for pets, I think it's up to the owners to keep them safe if they know there's wolves and yotes around.

Either way stay safe out there. Can't imagine anything more instantaneously panic inducing than taking a step and falling through the ice.

Good luck Bro. What is your firearm?

I went out and made a go at calling coyotes last weekend but got skunked. I didn't have to lay out on thin ice, but the roads were pretty treacherous - lots of drifting snow.

I wasnt sure how close I'd get so shooting a savage 3006. Nosler partitions so hopefully is something is dumb enough to stick its head out the bullet will punch through and not do much aggressive expanding.

I've never called. It's tough in thick bush

I'm in pretty open country, here are my stands from last weekend:

I used to do pretty well, at least with respect to getting animals to respond - I missed a lot of coyotes as a teenager. I'm a better shot now, but I haven't seen as many the last few years. Probably mostly because I'm also not putting in the time I used to. I've been out twice so far this winter and made two stands each time. Saw one coyote, but my buddy missed. 400 yards in the wind with a 204 Ruger, tbf.

Do y'all winter hunters up north wear drysuits when on ice? Our waterways down in the valley here only get to low 50s but the alpine lakes routinely hit low 40s to freezing and I could never dream of getting on the water or ice without atleast a wetsuit.

Still not up for you? Yeah the 204 is great. I think he just shot a little high actually. It was a rushed shot, and I didn't have time to range it before hand.

I think it would be more fun to go out and spend a week with him, you need to swap his wife places (no homo)
