Is making friends at the gym awkward for anyone else?

I’ve been told I’m a people person, but I’m trying to make new friends and it can be awkward as hell. This guy I’ve seen at the gym almost everyday for months, I asked him what he was working on few days ago and we chatted for a bit about bulking cutting etc.. saw him again next time at gym and asked what he was working on lol. Then I saw him today both made eye contact across the room, but what should I wave at him or something. Left without talking to him, but we didn’t lift next to each other today or I would have said something.

Strong no homo to all of this, but any other guys that want to make new friends know these feels? Maybe it’s easier for women or something.

Just trying to make friends without coming off like a homo

Number 1 rule at the gym is to just go there and lift and don't speak to anyone.

No need to talk to people.

You could have nodded after making eye contact and left it at that. Most guys go to the gym to lift and leave .

On the gym floor? Yes, it's awkward.

In the showers? Only if there's eye contact for less than 0.5 seconds.

Why are you bothering people at the gym. It's a workout, not a book club.

Best way to make friends in the gym is in the locker rooms afterwards when you’re both naked. You know how they say to picture someone naked if you’re nervous? This way you don’t have to imagine & you’ll both be more at ease & the conversation will flow.

Lol, I asked for this for I know, but seriously no one has become friends with someone they see at the gym all the time?

it's hit or miss for me. Some guys act like gym twats and you don't really want to be friends with them. Other guys want to talk to you way too much and it's fcking annoying. It's hard to meet that perfect gym bro of "let me work out, but go ahead and talk sometimes... but stfu sometimes, too"

Nah. Making friends at the gym is goat. But it should be natural and not forceful. I've made some great friends of all nationalities back in 2015 at a local 24/hr fitness. You play basketball and you lift with them. Its just natural. Whats hilarious is that the dudes who never played basketball somehow have a very high basketball iq lol.

Agreed. I'm very personable and friendly but I hate socializing at the gym despite most of the ppl there being pretty cool. Just wanna go lift and dip out.

Crossfit would be a decent gym to meet people since you work in pairs often. Just try to make friends before you snap something.

All the friends I’ve made have been through forced association like school, sports/clubs, and work.
See you tomorrow

i would say join a specific sport or activity like martial arts or sport leagues where you're learning and growing with others. it will build proper bonds than just lifting weights. ded fkn srs
Ya good idea
