It took me a bit and sometimes I still get that feeling, but what helped me is realizing others are in same boat as me, or even worse.
When I realized that, the depression I had for where my life is and where its going didn't seem to matter anymore.

never really cured it all the way
biggest things that helped reduce it was staying busy, working more, joining some adult sports leagues and forming a band. i basically had to do move to a more lively/social place to accomplish the last two. there is an absolute fuk ton to do.
now oddly enough, going back to my home town now helps.

Don’t think I’ve ever been really, truly depressed.
Allow yourself time. Don’t pressure yourself to get through all your tasks. Try to accomplish just one thing per day. Could be laundry, vacuum the floors. Give yourself credit for doing that one thing.
Hydrate. Exercise. Give yourself credit for these things.
Positive self talk.

Just lmao @ meds curing depression.
Virtually all depression is due to toxic shame, directly or indirectly. So you have to take that journey. One of the most accessible ways into this is the book No More Mr Nice Guy. This isn't part of its sales pitch, but it does a great job on introducing the subject.

On a low dose antidepressant and haven't had any weird thoughts in three years. I always tell people to try meds, they absolutely changed my life.

Lift.
The hormones made by exercise will pull you out of a nose dive if you want them to. With all the whining on this forum I sometimes wonder how many guys here actually lift.

Man it’s hard to quantify. I was in a very rough place when I met my wife and she helped me out a ton but it wasn’t all her either.
I just stopped worrying about all of my insecurities. It really sunk in that life is short and I was wasting my time being down all the time.
These days I’ll get down occasionally but I can go to bed and then I'm fine the next day.
The key is just understanding that life is short and we only get one go round so we may as well at least try and enjoy it.
God bless y’all! Srs
I’m big on movies and whatnot, Chasing Mavericks is on HBO Max and is worth the watch and really hits hard for me anyway.

You learn to.live along side of it
It's genetic
it's simple
Westernized/modern societies: 30%+ depression/anxiety rate
traditional hunter gatherer societies: < 1% depression/anxiety rate
and even within the same country/race (i.e. same genetics), depression/anxiety increases as a country's wealth increases (i.e. becomes more Westernized)
it's not normal for a country to be full of 30-50% of people depressed like the West, you can't dismiss numbers like that as just saying Western people have chit genetics. It's the unnatural modern Western lifestyle that is soul destroying.
they try and tell you the insane Western depression/anxiety epidemic is just 'genetics/brain chemicals' so big pharma like Pfizer can make hundreds of billions of dollars selling you happy pills, and also keeping you a depressed/anxious consoomer hamster on the wheel is profitable in other ways.
