Anyone ever bought a car from Craigslist or FB marketplace?

I’m helping a buddy find a truck

We’ve looked at about a dozen trucks. Every single one has had serious problems not disclosed in the ad. Rolled back odometers, serious engine damage, salvage title etc

My brother tried to buy a car like this a few years ago and faced the same problem. Eventually gave up and bought from a dealer

Yup, but there's so many flippers out there.
You really have to take the car to a garage and pay them to check it out for you. There's too much you can miss by not having it on a lift.

We’ve just been looking at them ourselves and been finding these issues

If someone couldn’t do that, and paid 100 dollars per inspection they’d be out 1200 dollars so far (12x100) and not even have a truck yet

I would avoid buying cars off craiglist unless you have good diagnosing and mechanic skills. More than half of the cars I see look shady, violated, touched...molested.

I've listed 2 cars on craigslist. 1 guy took an uber to my house and couldnt figure out why I wasn't budging on the price - the other one ended up selling to a random drive-by that asked if the car was for sale. Such a headache dealing with buyers. Just a ridiculous waste of time as a seller.

You could not pay me to buy a car off of craigslist. I have an auto broker for that.

You can good deals there. What you have to look for are private sellers and very recently posted. Too many flippers and others pretty much block you.

I bought a car recently and I was the first person to see the car since it had been posted like only 4 hours. Guy said he had tons of calls to return and phone was ringing while i test drove it.

cliffs; keep checking back. lotta people just want to get rid of their car without knowing the value.
