Need a tool chest for the garage- will i regret buying this?

I've got the standard tools you'd have in a garage- pliers, sockets, screw drivers, ratcheting wrenches, flare nut wrenches, etc. plus some other things I keep out there like vacuum gauges, oil/fuel filter tools, electrical testing/soldering equipment.

Would i regret getting this over a conventional 2 piece tool chest/cabinet? The idea of a work surface on top appeals to me and I could always bolt something to the back like a piece of plywood/peg board. What do you bros think?

I have that red one except the top box is a bit bigger and has a larger area up top (lid is arched)

Honestly love that box. But if I had the space id have gotten that blue one you posted.

Its the workspace that id like, and if that top allows it id mount a vice on it.

I have 2 of those, they’re fine for the price.

Pro tip tho……unless you’re rich af and money isn’t really an issue……harbor freight is pretty much the best place to buy tool boxes.

Better quality than most cheap brands, and better prices than most expensive brands.

I'd recommend the blue one. You'll also be able to install a vice on the table, so you can use it for projects. Also make sure it has wheel locks. (Ded fkn Srs)

You can build your own OP for a lot cheaper. I did…lots of plans on the net. I made a roughly 3’ x 6’ work table on wheels. I put plugs in it and cut the end of a drop cord off to wire it. To give it power, I just plug the drop cord in. Can have several power tools plugged in at once so I’m not switching cords. Even made a recessed area to drop the miter saw in so that wood is flush with the table surface when I cut. Literally the best thing in my garage. Only thing I wish is I would’ve used a different top. MDF doesn’t like moisture.

I'm leaning this way, Wizard above you mentioned a vice too. She has wheel locks and won't be going anywhere. On recharge.

Recently bought a chest. A big one, 2 piece.
A work area on top would be cool though.

They are expensive as phukk.
Just dont be afraid to pay a bit more and just get what you really want.
Dont cheap out.

How many tools do you have or plan to have? The only issues I forsee is either buying one that is too small and either cramming it full or having to buy a 2nd one. Or buying one too big, giving you an excuse to spend more money on tools to fill it up. I'd almost reccomend 2 of the blue ones

unlucky you don't have harbor freight access, their boxes are pretty killer for the price

personally at least, i find that topped boxes like that one just end up being chit catchers and the utility of having an integrated workbench dies out pretty quickly when you have to clear it any time you want to actually use it

i don't want my vise on wheels and i usually end up more organized if i have a separate workbench i keep clear all the time, and a good place to put everything away

true you wont get all the benefits of a vice with the wheel even locked but if you arent trying to take apart large pipe fittings or something that doesn't matter, the vice can still be a steady third hand which is handy af

I have this one at work & the harbor freight Us general in a smaller size that costs more. The HUSKY blows the HF out of the water, wood top is handy, soft close drawers & built in power strip are awesome.

find a friend or look into a company in your area with a po box

My dads friend who owns a machine shop has a po box across the border he uses and I used once or twice when I couldn't ship something to Canada

that's how they get their harbour freight fix



With regards to those two id rather have the blue for home use. I have a typical red stacked set and just the little countertop space on the blue one wins out I feel

The red tops are good for the backseat of a truck if you race motocross or something where you need tools on the go
