There's no solid answer. Everyone handles grief differently. Just take it one day at a time and just as with a close human passing, remember that they would want you to move on and be happy.

My condolences.

sorry for your loss brah, but the pain never goes away. It subsides but you don't forget about it. It's like losing a member of the family. You can take solace that your cat probably lived a good-great life. After x amount of time pass you can get another pet. It won't substitute for your loss, but it does help alleviate the feeling. All you can do is just make the next few days as comfortable as possible for your cat.

cat brah checking in. I know that feel and it's not fun. Its like losing a member of the family.

My condolences man. srs

Just know that if its suffering, it will end the pain. It's what needs to be done and it takes some time to adjust but time heals all wounds. Just don't rush into getting another pet. The life it lived with you was much better than it would have had as a stray or out in the wild. Unfortunately they don't live forever but just trust in the fact that the time was well shared.

My condolences!
I did lose 4 cats over the years and it did feel like hell every time.
But, even though it sounds corny as sh*t, time does indeed heal.
I’m sure she had a wonderful life with you.
Do her one last favor and stay at her side until the very last second.
The last thing she hears should be your voice comforting her.
This is hard but it will make it easier for her to go across the bridge.

Sorry man. I had to watch my sweet dog bleed from his mouth, nose, rear end, etc from a botched blood transfusion as his organs shut down before I had to have a vet come and send him over the bridge. The same night, I had him cremated and made sure that I was the one who placed him in the crematorium so that he was never frozen or mishandled. That was October of last year and I still break down just about every single day thinking of him. I wish I could give you a solid answer, but losing a dear pet sure sucks. I imagine you gave him a great life and lots of love, so you can at least smile knowing that. They sure don't live long enough.

the pain from the loss is a sign of how significant your relationship is with your cat....be thankful you were the one to experience the joy of knowing your pet, and YOU were the one to give it the life it deserved

part of providing the love along the way, is the love to ease its suffering when it matters most

in time, the mourning will be replaced with the happy memories and those will stay with you till the end (and that is why it is all worth it)

be strong, give your friend the peace they've earned

I'm so sorry for this moment brah, but I'm not sorry for all the good years

I've been here so many times, I know the pain. It's the cost we pay for all the happiness.

I had to euthanize my cat when she was 19 years old I made the decision when I saw her health declining that I would never do that I wanted her I die in her home tucked in her bed but when it came down to it she was stuck in this weird half dead half alive phase. I could tell she was suffering and scared. I watched them give her the shots then the lights in her eyes slowly went out and I knew in that instant it was over and I felt strangely relieved. She lived a full happy life and died in my arms.

The pain will slowly subside over time. Don’t let yourself dwell on it. An elderly beloved pet passing is to be expected, it’s part of life

I'm not sure whats going on but I've been thinking a lot about my pets that passed lately

When one of my cats died I listened to this song for two weeks straight, it was worse because this cat sat beside a sick family member for days until the got better
It would always look after strays and let them eat first. It actually escaped a pet store as a kitten and returned to my folks home.

Looking at pictures and videos helped me.

Condolences I know the feels

I just put my almost 16 year old dog down. It was hard asf to do -my only regret was not doing it sooner.

Do at home euthanasia. Google it or call a vet and they will know people.

It was the chillest way to do it. Woke up, had a normal morning with her, and then I heard a knock on my door, he came inside, setup some piddle pads underneath her, and we talked about how I got her, funny stories, while we sat on the floor pet my dog, fed her some peanut butter, and showed her a lot of love. He gave her a sedative and she totally relaxed - she looked so happy and comfortable; it showed me how much pain she was in everyday. Then after a while she fell asleep and started snoring away. I was emotional knowing that her life was over soon, but I cant think of a better final memory that her. We let her sleep for a while and then he gave the final shot. I know she's in a better place.

Vet tried to kill my last cat. Was trying to pressure me into euthanizing it when I brought her in. Claimed the cat was unlikely to survive the night. I resisted. Took the cat home and she lived 3 more months. She died at home, in a place she knew, and I got to spoil her in her final days. Congestive heart failure.

You don't get over the loss, but the pain goes away with time. A new pet helps, especially if you can rescue one from a kill shelter.

This is the part thay always makes me say "no more pets." Always end up with another pet.

Rip, kitty. Sorry, op.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

she came into my life when i met my then gf (now wife). have had her for 7 years now. very perceptive loving cat who comes cuddles you when you are sad and taken lot of our love. few months ago she started losing weight and we tried all medicines including steroids but vet thinks she has cancer. past week shes declined a lot and pretty skinny and frail. hasnt been eating much. i have never had a pet so she was kinda my first pet followed by her brother our other male cat. both are pretty old but yet been very full of life past few years.

shes very anaemic, and weak. i learnt usually blood transfusion is the last resort but with her persisting chronic condition it will only add days at best

I'm sorry to hear about your cat. All you can do right now is just shower her with love and affection and then when she does die that's when you grieve, get angry everything and over time you won't remember her final days you will remember all the fun times, all the silly things she did and just all the wonderful memories you created and as long as you remember with pictures and such, she will never truly be gone.

Didn’t know of this option. Would much rather that than the cold hard floor of a clinic. Rip Bailey
See you tomorrow

The price of love, is loss. Life without love is pointless. So you're going to have to pay the price if you want a life.

Just be there to comfort them. My 3 year cat passed last year and my only regret was waiting too long to put him down. He was good at hiding how weak he was but at the end I realized I had waited a week too long and he was in pain.
