Proves how important genetics are ( not that you should just give up if your genetics aren't favourable).

“Steroids is now just a word that the lazy and ignorant use to describe any guy that has more muscle and dedication than them”– Mike O'Hearn
"I am like getting the feeling of cumming in the gym; I'm getting the feeling of cumming at home; I'm getting the feeling of cumming backstage; when I pump up, when I pose out in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night. It's terrific, right? So you know, I am in heaven."

Arnold at 16

Sure, he was already juicing by now, but loads of teens nowadays do juice (more potent stuff than in the mids 60s) and cannot even be compared to this.

One of the saddest realisation of my life is when I figured out that all these 1950s stars (Bill Pearl, Atlas, Reeves, etc) were juicing already.
They had GOAT physiques but they were juicing.
Also, truth be told, some of their training was dubious, at least what you find online.
Reeves' routine was ridiculous. As a naive young lifter back over 10 years ago I started with that routine and it was just bad.
And Reeves apparently kept saying that his secret was just some secret protein shake, with honey, etc.
Come on. Everything about the fitness industry is a lie.
That said, I have respect for the guys that, although they juiced, also contributed to the field ofstrength traininglike Bill Pearl or Reg Park, who actually had serious/good training routines.
Reg Park's routine is still my go to routine if I go back to lifting.

A lot of truth to this. Previous thoughts were that hard training and anabolics separated the pros from even the big guys...
Current thought now is that it is genetics that separate the elite in BBing. More gear wont overcome average genetics, bug great genetics can overcome the need to use ridiculous amounts of gear.
Specifically the research is pointing towards sensitivity and density of androgen receptors in/on muscle, not even levels of free t.

Kinda destroys some of the mystique and legend of these dudes once you got into the sport and realized the truth. The former is what hooks you and by the time you learn the truth you have a different love for it and don't tell anyone - kinda fukked up, lol.

Steroids were invented in the 1930s in Nazi Germany (of course) and were widely used in scientific setting, just not for consumers.
They became widely available in the US after WW2, just not in Europe. Leading to a boom of US bodybuilding stars like Reeves, Pearl, etc, who were dwarfing Europeans.
There is the anecdote of Sean Connery, the famous actor, who originally started with a goal of bodybuilding career in the 1950s, in his home of Scotland/Britain. He was very good looking and a great Athlete, but was demoralised and quit when steroided Americans entered the show and literally BTFO all the Europeans. Shortly after in the 60s, it became widespread in Europe too.

Met a kid awhile back that was 6'1 240lbs at 13 years old. Literally had a full five o clock shadow on his face. Etc.
Grown man at 13 years old. Feel kinda bad for him though. No real friends or anything. Stood out like a sore thumb .
