It's amazing how the intro for 16 Candles always made me nostalgic for an era I never experienced.



Had people who grew up then tell me how it was essentially like that.

Yeah 90's school was the last time I really enjoyed school culture. The early 00's wasn't too bad, but by the time I was in high school everyone had cell phones and it was already the beginning of the end.

I graduated near the mid 00's....it was still pretty good then. I remember when I graduated it was when MySpace just came out, there were phones but people weren't glued and addicted to them. No smartphones and closest thing was Blackberry's. Started getting bad after 2008 and then by 2012 it was over.

Yeah same here, graduated around 06, it's crazy how quickly the world was changing back then. As soon as I got out of high school and went to college ******** and smartphones became a popular thing, then we had the 08 crash and Obama got elected. The world I entered as a young adult was completely different from the world I grew up in.

I think it hit people our age especially hard, having lived through all the changes as we were still growing.

I remember getting these but they called it Saturday School from 8-noon and you had to sit on the school steps til they opened the doors @ 8am.

A friend of mine is still a legend, did a burnout in an autoshop bay with the instructors Corvette in 1993.

We all ate chit for that for a month straight but nobody ratted.

-The boys actually making stuff in shop class and working on cars -Can confirm. Favorite classes were Drafting and Machine Shop. I'd also help with the Auto shop guys that were building cars. I'd fabricate some parts for their builds. Mainly for this damn Porsche 914 that we put a Chevy V8 in.

-Good old classic Americana - Yep.
Probably the biggest thing during that time was that all the different groups of kids got along. Jocks, thugs, nerds, freaks, band geeks, etc. Yeah, sure there was the occasional fist fight after school behind the church but no one was getting stabbed or shot.

Had something like this in wood shop man.. table saw fukery before the shop instructor was there..

No one said chit, he even tried to get us to write it on a little piece of paper and all turn it in.

Hahahah, we all got detention for two weeks after school, but fuk it.

Makes me proud to be a 90s HS kid.

The thing is back then there wasn't propaganda, smart phones and social media diving everyone. Everyone could get along. Most people weren't obese. You could meet people of all kinds of sub cultures. There was freedom of speech.

Idk what happened. It seems like the 80s and 90s culture doesn't exist at all anymore.

You hit a big point, sub-cultures existed before social media, but now everyone is basically trying to echo the same popular opinions. The loss of music being a big influential part of youth culture also has a lot to do with it. I remember how back in the 90's and even 00's music was a big part of our cultural identity. Now everyone just listens to the same generic crap or doesn't give a phuck.

Before feminism there were far less suicides, far less depression, far less broken families

people starting getting very very very very particular with what was "acceptable" to the point most things human nature are now "unacceptable" in the eyes of femnists/woke people.

Before families worked together to achieve lifes goals. Men knew work wasnt the be all end all and that the family was. For some reason women got it in their heads that the life outside of the family was the be all end all and the family meant nothing, so divorce started to rise, women started to revolt against all masculinity, and woke mobs started demonizing classical nuclear family traits.

It started in colleges, then TV and the MSM, and now everywhere.

Just going to say high school from 89-93 was pretty fuking awesome. Rap was starting on the front end, Grunge on the back end, and we still got to see 70's and 80's bands like Rush, The Grateful Dead, Jethro Tull, The rolling stones and on and on

I saw 90 concerts my junior and senior year of high school (19 of the dead shows, you go the best party favors at their concerts) it was like $15 - $25 to see a concert back then.

The only people who can realistically do better than a nuclear family are taking advantage of world class markets. Fewer than 10% do this.

It wasn't even that long ago that Rap, Country, Rock and metal were all popular and being played on MTV. They've subverted everything though to have be similar. Like people growing up nowadays have no idea what Metallica or even Nickelback sound like lol

All they know is the same rap sound and the same woke stuff these corporations are pushing out. The 90's to mid 2000's had fukin everything.
