Elden Ring fanboys gonna fanboy, but…
Game looks like it should have been released 10 years ago and it looks boring AF in every clip I see of it.

Also, don’t let this distract you from the fact that Elden Ring looks like a 10 year old game and looks boring AF.

I'll agree the graphics aren't deserving of the praise and look like a ps4 game remastered for ps5. There's some beautiful scenes and art direction for sure but I'm talking about the actual graphics. And that would be made much clearer if you compare it to a game like Demon's Souls.
That said, I haven't played the game and haven't seen much so I can't offer an opinion if the reviews were overhyped. What I can say is while I like playing linear souls games, they're mostly for the combat, maxing out stats and trying out new gameplay mechanics and the cool mood and atmosphere.
I feel like just having a souls game in a huge open world though, won't be enough to make the game super exciting for me. They would have to add things in regards to quest and story elements to make an open world feel fulfilling and engaging. At least for me. So I hope they were able to do that and I won't just spend most of the game just running around from dungeon to castle to dungeon fighting monsters.

lol at people who based a games value on graphics. PS4 had better graphics than switch, yet switch is destroying it and it's successor.

I mean it's just Dark Souls 3 put in an open world map.
Nothing more nothing less.
If people liked Dark Souls then they'd like this.
If people didn't like Dark Souls then they probably won't like this.

Yeah it's just the latest hardcore nerdy game for masochistic gamers who enjoy punishing games. Can't say I got a problem with it though as it's just not my thing and I am fine simply dismissing it as I know what I would be getting into.
Plus it's just the latest flavor of the week/month as there hasn't been much new for the hardcore crowd in a while.

were none of these well received games for "the hardcore crowd"? They are all 2022 games. I got lazy and didn't put ratings for the first few games, but they are all 80 or above... but I also know ratings don't mean anything to you necessarily, so no big deal

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Like the average person with a casual interest in gaming isn't going to go for it, in fact the success of these games is essentially a statement for how important hardcore fanbases still are in the gaming industry. Most of the fans are people who already played past From Software titles that find their gothic art style and brutal difficulty appealing. That's pretty niche stuff.

Fair criticism. Again I haven't played the game but just giving an opinion on why some people won't think it's a 10.

Unpopular opinion but I think the game is over hyped and the whole "hardest games ever made" is fukkin dumb. Anyone can make a single player game and ramp up the difficulty and health of bosses.
I don't buy into the faux difficulty of games like this. Making bosses with absurd health that you have to fight for a long ass time just basically trying to have perfect dodges/blocks/attacks is just kind of a "meh" way to make a game difficult. It just feels cheap to me.

To be honest it's nothing new though. Before this it was games like Battletoads and Contra that got all the hardcore gamer attention for being super difficult. Games like that have always been notorious for their cheap bullchit. I guess there's just always been a lot of people in the gaming scene who think of hardcore difficulty as the be-all end-all when it comes to gaming. I imagine they're the same type of people who would have been high score chasers back in the 80's. You gotta be the type of person who enjoys grinding away at the same game forever, trying to learn all the patterns and strategies so you can do well.
Personally I just usually get bored or frustrated with games that want me to do that, and move on to something else that isn't so punishing.

Bosses should be menacing and to be menacing they need to give some challenge. Just rolling over bosses in the first attempt because the game is designed for consoomers to move onto the next product is not it mane.
