Gun brahs, need some advice (Reps)

Thinking of getting a shotgun. Is there anything good for both home defence and duck hunting?

Only want to spend around $500 max.

Really want an over/under but the nicer ones are expensive as fuk and two rounds doesn't tick the home defence box.

Ignore location, you can't update it and I couldn't be arsed anyway.

Most anything will work, for home defense you will likely want a shorter barrel than what you are using while hunting. The 870 as referenced above would be a solid choice just get another barrel

I'd get an automatic shotgun if home defense is on the menu. It's too easy to short-stroke a pump under life or death pressure.

$500 doesn't leave much room for a good automatic though... maybe some Turkish chit.

I got a beneli superNova and it's the smoothest shotgun I've shot. I got the pump version, nontactical. I believe mine was in the $400 range if I remember correctly. I've shot grouse, ducks, geese, and pheasants with mine and have loaded it up with slugs and buckshot for bear defense. Thankfully did not need to use it for bears lol but It would work for that.

18" barrel is likely the shortest you'll be able to buy in store

You make a good case. Would have to opt for the non-pistol grip version where I am though because apparently that feature transforms a friendly shotgun into a fearsome weapon of war. Heard good things about Benellis but worried that was M4 hype.

This is a good gun especially for the value. Went duck hunting with some friends on a cold morning and my gun was the only gun that was reliable. All their guns froze up.

Winchester SXP Camp/Field is often recommended given your requirements. Comes with both barrels and under $500.

Remington 870 or Mossberg 590. There are a million versions of both. They are the #1 and #2 most popular shotguns on the planet and you'll always be able to find parts or upgrades.

18.5" is ideal length for home defense and 26" is standard for hunting. So maybe somewhere between the two if you need it for both.

Yeah, reliability is a big factor for the home defence part too. Seeing a lot of good things about the 870, barrel takes like 10 seconds to change as well.

On a side note Catbrah, did you know you can fire a .50 BMG out of a 12 gauge?

I have a Remington 870, was about that price before I went and got all my plastic magpul and FAB Defense furniture. Kind of feel accessories make Remington and Mosberg the best choices.

I've been eyeballing a Beretta 1301, but that is about twice your stated price range

Yeah, I really don't want to spend too much on a shotty. There seems to be a lot of decent stuff around $500, though an extra barrel may bump that up a bit if I don't go with KrackerJacked's suggestion.

I legit did not know that. I can only imagine the recoil in that size gun though. lol

I should check the confiscated inventory and see if we have anything good for you

I don't think 870's are available new at the moment, but could be wrong. Should be plenty on the used market, though. Remington went bankrupt. They were bought and should be putting guns out again soon, but I was thinking they were still out of commission.

For $500 any of the Mossberg/winchester/Benelli pumps would be my pick. An 18" barrel for home defense and a 26" or 28" barrel for ducks would be ideal. Not sure that fits in $500, so I would just get the longer barrel and call it good.

It's not bad from what I've seen. It looks like it fits perfectly but the shell doesn't fireform to the chamber properly so a lot of the energy is lost.

Probably shouldn't try it mind.

Tbh, I would get a lower receiver and a 300 blackout upper with a suppressor. No reason to damage your hearing taking out a home invader.

That’s what I use.
