This is HUGE. Soccer and hockey are Russia's biggest sports, and (unlike American domestic leagues) they completely rely on international competitions for finance and exposure. Banned from everything. Not just the national team but the clubs too. Looks like Russia gets a fine taste of a modern cancel culture - TOTAL and UNEQUIVOCAL isolation from the entire civilized world.

For those who don't know, soccer is a billion-dollar industry and Russia invests heavily in it. All their professional clubs spent hundreds of millions of dollars to attract international talent (who will now all terminate their contracts and leave), and relied on UEFA competitions to make a majority of their profit. Russia wasted billions of dollars building brand news stadiums for FIFA World Cup 2018, which will now all rust and fall apart from no use.

As for hockey, just see how crazy their fans are about winning the gold in all competitions. This is like breathing air for them. All Russian domestic players dream about playing in NHL which now won't touch them with a ten-foot pole.
