What possible justification would anyone have to defend these actions from Russia?

Putin doesn't want Ukraine to join NATO because if they do, now there's suddenly a huge NATO border around Russia.

I feel for Ukraine. Poland welcomed the Ukrainians in with open arms. Russia did the same thing Nazi Germany/Soviets did to Poland in 1939.

Now sanctions on Russia have tanked the Russian economy. Putin is done.

Possibly. I think it is bigger than Biden though and that this move against Ukraine may be Russia attempting to hold on to their super power status.

OP I don't think there are good guys here, but there are plenty of blameless victims. It seems like the west goaded Ukraine to act tough and stand up to Russia with no intent of actually supporting Ukraine if Russian carried through and did what they said they would do.

Up to you how much blame to apportion on that side to the US/NATO/EU and the Ukrainian government.

It is the Ukrainian government who are to blame for their order that men ages 18 to 60 would not be allowed to leave the country- an immediate and universal draft, not a voluntary call to arms. If there are a large number of Ukrainian casualties then their government bears some responsibility for that.

On the Russian side Putin was very clear in stating what he wanted and how he intended to respond. It isn't justified, in the sense that an invasion is nearly impossible to justify, but so far it seems that Russia has attempted to minimize civilian casualties and preserve infrastructure. From what I recall of the negotiation talks I believe that Russia was offering for Zelensky to stay in power but with the stipulation of abandoning efforts to join NATO and arm themselves against Russia.

What Op and others singing the same tune don't seem to understand is that almost no one is saying this is justified, or implying in any way that Russia is correct or is morally doing the right thing. There is room to denounce actions/outcomes, but also understand and discuss the root cause of a conflict. In addition to that, it's shinning a light on the hypocrisy of nations, and the unilateral usage of social media to sway public opinion, without any critical thought or understanding of a situation.


But I guess unless I chant the chants, and march to the tune, then I'm a Russian saboteur, bot, or your run of the mill internet troll.

Ukraine has been putting NATO military equipment, ammo, weapon systems, and was trained by the West right by the Russian border, despite agreement with Russia not to do so. Some nazi elements in Ukraine also committed some terrorist acts against Russians living in Ukraine. Ukraine also broke some promises and deals it made with Russia, and instead started sucking globohomo’s cawk. Ukraine yelled and scream about how they are gonna take over Moscow for 8 years now. Well… here is their chance.

I don’t get why US Presidents only say like 2 or 3 empty slogans read from a teleprompter, and their acting is bad too. Brah we are literally bombing like 5 countries rn. Illegally occupying like 1/3 of Syria. We invaded iraq fully knowing WMD was a lie.

It's not right for Russia to invade Ukraine but the U.S. has been committing these acts for 70+ years. I don't think it's up to us to resolve what's happening in Ukraine.
