What was the hardest hitting event/period over your life? Events like 9/11, etc...

There are people from all places and of all ages on the misc... I was wondering what events have hit you the hardest? Things seem pretty bad right now, at least for me... Current state of the world...

Examples:

9/11
2007-2008 financial crisis
Covid
Wars...
Current events now...
(2012 when everything changed)

I was a kid when 9/11 happened... Teenager during the great recession... As an adult now it's almost horrifying to realize how blissfully ignorant I was about these things and how they affected people.

- Cold War + AIDS 80's
- 9/11 was horrific and surreal, but I only remember being particularly anxious for a short time...week or 2?
- 07/08 Financial Crisis was very engaging and I had some anxiety, but then I was angry
- Pandemic: anxious and then confused [WTH? This makes no sense.] and then angry

But taking care of my mom the last few months was the very hardest and worst. She had a broken hip at the time and suffered with other physical problems, but was also mentally unwell [glioblastoma].

It made me determined to do whatever I can to never put another person through that.

I was 17 when 9/11 happened and it was probably the first 2 - 3 weeks of me starting college. It definitely defined a lot of my generation I grew up in. I was living in Virginia at the time and had a lot of friends in ROTC. I was considering going in the military also. You also knew a lot of people in Virginia that were military or worked for the government up there so the Pentagon attack definitely hurt.

A week later after 9/11 we had the Anthrax scare then years later you had the DC sniper. All sorts of ****ed.

At least back then the country I felt was more unified during that period between 2001 - 2008.

2017 I saw the cracks tear at the seams where people became more divisive on their political ideology.

Then a pandemic which IMO has been interesting to 2022. Identity wars, politics, division.

I will say my father dying a few years back hit me hard but it also gave me clarity in my role in the family and defining my path as a man.

IDK which one takes the cake exactly but, in no particular order here's my top 4:

- Dad being in the hospital related with heart surgeries and chit
- Failing not only just my first class ever, but an entire semester of classes, occurring while in College
- Losing all of my non-retirement savings due to gambling one year
- Breaking up with 3.5+ years LTR while also living with them

I was writing a paper, due date 9/12. Asked for an extension, she said just come to class.

Since this is the misc I have to mention she was beautiful. A college Professor, mountain of dark curly hair, dark eyes with perfect eyebrows.

I got to class and we just talked about it. Her dad had to walk home in his dress shoes like 4 miles. She handled it perfectly without any training, just demonstrated simple human compassion.

Grandma was Dying, girlfriend was a huge lying kent, brother was furiously stealing from the family business, other employee was stealing customers, nephews and niece were abandoned by brother, dad was trying to date brothers first and second ex wives friends while my mom was trying to help her dying mom, crushed foot with extra long floor jack, blew out knee, developed alopecia areata all in the same timeframe around 2009 or so. As far as world events 9/11 hit pretty hard, I was about 23 at the time. Also hits pretty hard having watched this world devolve into the dark clownery we see now.

2001 - 9/11 (impacted me, but not in a bad way - not easy to understand but it changed my life for the better) *Huge respect to the victims.

2010 - Lost a lot of family members - lets say 5-6 (majority to cancer).





I'm not easily affected, so I cant remember more moments.
