The news reports are all chit can't even see what he was charged with or pled guilty to.
Here's the court notes
So he was being prosecuted for an offense which carried maximum life, but they let him plead guilty to a lesser offense 'causing harm' with a maximum of 5 years.
That's the whole offense, 'unlawfully causes harm' derp!
Here's the court notes
HIS HONOUR: Shane Ryan, on 24 January 2022 you were due to take your trial on
an indictment containing two counts. You were, at least until late December 2021
represented by lawyers but you effectively dispensed with their services and
determined to represent yourself.
The indictment contained, as count 1, a charge of causing harm with intent to
cause serious harm contrary to s 177A of the Criminal Code. That offence carries a
maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Count 2 on the indictment is a charge that on
22 October 2020 you unlawfully caused harm to the victim in this matter. That is an
offence contrary to s 186 of the Criminal Code and carries a maximum penalty of five
years’ imprisonment.
When the jury was about to be empanelled on 24 January 2022 you asked for a
moment to speak to the Crown prosecutor. I granted you that time. I was informed
that there had been previous discussions between the prosecution and your former
lawyers in which the prosecution had suggested it may accept a plea of guilty to
count 2 in full satisfaction of the indictment.
Prior to 24 January 2022 no agreement had been reached to this effect. After
giving you 15 minutes to speak to the Crown prosecutor I was informed that you
wanted to enter a plea of guilty to count 2 on the indictment and that if you did so the
Crown would accept such a plea in full satisfaction of the indictment.

You do realise the entire island is a prison
How can they send you to prison when you’re already serving time

I'll never ****ing understand such lenient sentences for violent attacks. Violent offenders HAVE to be imprisoned to protect other members of society.
I seriously think if you attempt to murder someone, you automatically deserve life in prison. Use a weapon as a tool of intimidation? Minimum 25 years.
Violent people do not belong in society.
