My Honda has drums in the back. It has 300k miles too, most of which are mine.

Look into switching them out to discs. It's not that difficult unless you're into cars.

That's another plus for discs brakes, they are much easier to replace than drums.

What do you think is holding the parking brake/e-brake in place

Probably around 90% of passenger vehicles have drum brakes sitting inside the rear disc

That and pretty much all cars had rear drums for the longest time. Four wheel disc brakes is a relatively new thing for cars.
