Rentcels resorting to renting rooms for 1k a month?
Typical ad in my area
“Fantastic 10x8 room for rent for $1000 per month, no access to common areas, no pets, no guests, laundromat nearby. Mini fridge included. Minimum 2 month deposit and 12 month lease with credit and background check. Young professionals only female preferred”
Absolutely time to rope if you’re a renter

Meanwhile my ex literally just offered to pay me $800/mo to let her have a small space in the living room and to share common areas and chit, she'd get curtains and dividers/seperators. This chit is real unfortunately. Rent is just too dam high to live alone unless you make $60k+ before taxes.
All the calculators tell me that I should cap my rent bill at around $2000-3000, but even then that's like freakin' 23-33% of my income thrown away at rent if I were to do that. And I make $120k gross before taxes. It's nearly impossible to find a good place in a safe area these days for cheaper than $1500. So if you make $60k, happen to live in a state without state taxes and net around $49k, you can then afford up to $1650/mo capped at 33%.
