More practice is the only thing you can do to overcome weaknesses like that

Find a way to speak to groups of people more often and it won't be a problem after a while

It might not be easy to put yourself in those situations so just talking to random people on the streets might be a good alternative

I remember getting stage fright in high school and even college

but idk if it was being a cop or what but by the time I started competing in bodybuilding I felt fine standing on a stage in front of a coupl thousand people in a thong dancing around to a song.

Everyone was surprised at my wedding they kept asking me if I was nervous or anxious or anything and I was pretty much just chill and having a good time all day/night.

I’ve never done it, but I’ve read that tournament golfers and performers will use Atenolol because it keeps the heart rate down under stressful situations.

It depends on the situation, not everyone can just practice and become better. I can go from someone who cant talk at all in a speech/interview setting to absolutely destroying just from taking my anti depressants.

Beta blockers are pretty harmless, and you dont build a tolerance. Lots of people use them for public speaking etc. propanolol is the standard. Id start with 20mg and see how it works for you.

Dude, if you're getting that nervous over a speech then you should seek out therapy instead of medication. Find the cause of it.

you did what once? not sure i follow your last sentence

about the flying. i can get through it fine. i usually just gag if i havent flown in a while and we are taking off. the take-off is the worst part, unless there is very bad turbulence.

when i was in my early 20's my co-workers loved going on long overseas trips and i was not used to being on a plane for 10 hours. i worked for the airline so i was a standby passenger which usually meant 10+ hours in a crappy middle seat. as a tall dude it was just miserable for me so i asked my doc for low dose benzo, which took the edge off but thats about it.

i am well aware i can train my mind to get over stuff like that but i dont do it enough to make any significant progress.

The true remedy to this situation is joining something like toastmasters

What you’re doing is just masking the problem and who knows if this will turn into a bigger crutch for you

And you can’t go cold turkey on them if used frequently

Snooker adopted IOC rules-he wasn't the only player taking them either-Neal Foulds had to come off them & Rex Williams admitted he had been using them for years. He had been dropping heavily in the rankings for a few years anyway & his career was pretty much done by the end of the 1980's. He ended up going back to Canada, ended up bankrupt & lived off of disability until his death in the early 2000's. All seemed a bit odd for a sport where most players sat at their tables smoking cigarettes as snooker was bankrolled by tobacco companies & drinking beer, or in some cases vodka & orange until the 1990's.

Just remember to breathe that helps a lot. Just go slow, take deep breaths. A lot of people get very anxious when presenting because they forget to breathe they're so concentrated on their speech! Also practice is the best way. Beta blockers will just stop you from shaking etc but it won't help too much with mental anxiety imo.

Took propranolol just for speeches. It doesn’t make youfeelless nervous at all…for that, you need something like ****** or some other depressant. But it DOES prevent all the other symptoms of stage fright like excessive sweating, voice trembling, heart racing….it basically prevents you from entering that fight-or-flight stage…which those symptoms make it even worse and compounds your nervousness.

So you’ll still care, you’ll still be nervous, but people watching you won’t really know which helps tremendously. That’s my personal experience anyway…

Do you not think I have been told this same thing by angry little 12 year old I have had to take back to their parents? Literally the same thing they said. Stop acting like a child.

Also I wasn't the bullied nerd, I was a perfectly normal socialize child throughout all of school and I was in the biggest party fraternity and had already gotten jacked by the time I was in college, that had NOTHING to do with being nervous talking in front of an audience.

I've used 10mg propanol here and there (maybe 10x over 10 years) makes an incredible difference for public speaking, highly suggest it.

Very commonly prescribed for stage fright; it will void most of the physical symptoms of anxiety while lowering diastolic

It's fine

propronol doesnt cross blood brain barrier and will just reduce physical symptoms of anxiety without mental distortions.

OP just dont take too much, it lowers blood pressure, it will help keep you calm, take maybe an hour before your presentation but take a low dose because too high a dose would make you feel dizzy or even faint

Old thread is old. lol

Yes, I've used it for a couple of extremely important presentations. It really is a tradeoff. For me, it causes some sleepiness. At the same time, it does slow down the rapid pulse and shortness of breath if I'm anxious.

its not a benzo or addictive drug, you could take it for every occasional speech and "go cold turkey" all other days.

OP also be aware it will make you get tired quicker if you try to do cardio but half life is pretty short so by next day you will be normal
