Anyone here done it?

im stuck in a small bum fuk city of 50k people. overpriced houses because londoners are buying up everything and no good paying jobs.

however im in a job that provides me with a 1 bedroom house free of charge. negative is that i dont own it and it doesnt really feel like home. im thinking of renting a place in cheaper city until i can settle into a decent job and then buy a place a third of what it costs in my current city,

also have no friends, just my mum and dad which i'll miss

I got a new job and moved 1,700 miles from the town I grew up in (120k pop) in 2018 because I had simply done everything after living there 30 years. Had quite a few friends although most had grown up and moved to bigger cities too, and I saw myself either going somewhere else and doing new stuff or staying there and being a regular every night at the same bar until I died. Was a great choice tbh, still talk to a few of my friends from back home, visit occasionally, but get bored again in 2 or 3 days and am ready to gtfo again. They closed that bar during covid which sucks because I spent a lot of good nights there.

If you're moving somewhere and 'starting over' because you have no friends or think it will solve your problems its a bad move, you'll just be friendless and far away from your parents.

If you have no friends then it really doesn't matter. Also being in the UK it's not like you'll be terribly far away from your parents no matter where you move to. I live 3 hours away from my dad and 4 hours away from my mom and its not a problem. Being in that distance range its still easy to do a weekend trip

i did it - 0 regrets BUT i may be doing it again for the second time in less than a year lol.

As long as you’re able to adjust. Culture shock can fuk with some people.

It’s one of the best things one could ever do.

Everyone should do it at least once in their life just for the experience at the very least.
