Watching “Requiem For A Dream” (2000) for the first time in 21 years

Anyone know or have any opinions on the movie.

I think it’s a masterpiece and yet it’s the only movie in history that I have wanted to rewatch some time that I’ve been too skittish to see it through until the end. I only remember seeing it in full once. It left me shook. Speechless.

I could seriously sit through “Gummo” again (I sure as hell will not though. That movie sucked but you probably get the point) because that would bother me less than this

Any movies that had an impact on any of you, one you even liked, but you just can’t sit through it again because it’s too deep for you?

I still remember when replying 'Requiem For A Dream' was the miscs go to response to any question asked. Similar to 'about 350'.
No idea how that ever came about.

Cliffs:
- The mom has become addicted to amphetamines and lost her chit so they want to give her electroshock therapy.
- The two brahs are coming off of heroin.
- The sloot has begun working for Tyrone to get heroin.

That movie is depressing.

It was sad his mom was all alone and popping pills, he was making some money but he didnt spend the time with her to make sure she was ok.

Then he and his sloot also get on drugs.

Then the sloot skates through everything and is the only one still out there just slooting about at the end of the movie and eveyrone else gets fuked over.

The filming and camera angles/style is pretty cool, so is the dark progressive music.

Movie kinda creeped me out though.

I watched it today because I kept seeing this meme. I was not expecting such a dark psychological trip. Good movie. Maybe the mom looking like my grandma made it hit harder.

I've seen it several times. Creepy movie.

I think movies like this normalized drug abuse in the USA, making overdose the leading cause of death for under-50s.... Maybe we shouldn't be dedicating art masterpieces to degeneracy.

The mom has the saddest story. The other three kinda did it to themselves, but the mom getting put on meth pills for losing weight was truly tragic and elevated the story way higher than it would've otherwise.

Spun is a good one, too. Similarly depressing but a lot funnier / quirkerier overall.
