Should the young and child-free work harder?

I worked jobs where I'm expected to work odd hours and pick up ****ty shifts to cover for the people who have kids. I've also had to work with lame **** boomers who give me extra work over the older staff members because "you're young -- you can handle it!"

IMO if you're younger and child free, you should work harder to cover the others, but you should definitely get more compensation and be first in line for promotions. But with that said, those with children and maybe extra years of experience (boomer employees) would have to take a backseat if they don't bring the same value you do. Is that fair? What misc think?

I do almost no work but get paid nearly twice as much as my subordinates who do all the work for me......
