I had an app on my phone and when you pointed the camera at the sky, it read the stars it was seeing based on your position. So, the camera would name the stars it was pointed at.

I thought that was cool because I could read about them later.

I know there's telescopes that have been out for years that have a system in them that turns the telescope to known objects. That way you don't have to hunt forever.

I live in the city though and couldn't use one for much due to light pollution, but I always wanted one.

Pretty much everything out there is worth what you pay and after a quick search you will know the brands.
First question should be what do you plan to do with it? Check out a few planets? A nice close up of the moon?

Honestly, I never found it that thrilling until I learned about A
astrophotography. It will cost a bit for a good setup (you need an equatorial mount that moves your scope with the rotation of the earth so you can take long shutter times shots). The easiest things to photograph don’t require a good telescope it’s all about the mount. Sharper things like planets are harder/need better equipment but nebulae we the coolest pics.

I live out in Alaska so some of the least light pollution in the world. Need to take advantage of it

I would get a reflector/newtonian. 4” diameter primary objective.

Won’t be too expensive and you can see just about anything.

Don't go crazy and get one with a wide diameter and pentaprisms; your inexperienced bussy can't handle that as a newbie. Find and a narrow on and lube up well, breath from the belly.
