I have an Xbox but fell off playing because they had too many online games while PlayStation had all of the good stand alone games, so I'm not sure about that.

Online games aren't really games as there is no objective, so they are cheap trash time wasters.

Are you aware I grew up with the PS1 and PS2 probably being my favorite consoles, and I even really enjoyed the PS3 despite it's flaws, but the PS4 was a really divisive console for me. Over the PS3 gen they really started gravitating towards more movie-like games, but in the PS4 gen that really took over and pretty much all of their critically acclaimed exclusives last gen had a similar sort of feel for me. Also now that these consoles are essentially all digital I just didn't like the way the PS4 felt, it would crash, have database issues, general UI and network issues I wouldn't have elsewhere. Like right now I just don't want to have anything to do with the PS5, there is nothing really drawing me to it and I don't want to get sucked into buying a bunch of games for another Playstation when I keep finding myself getting bored with their games despite whatever critical acclaim they might receive. I also just really don't like the fanbase either, like the entire PS brand feels different to me these days and it's not the same Playstation that I grew up with and knew. I'm posting this here because I came to realize how I've been totally satisfied with the Xbox Series X this gen, and after really enjoying the One and building up a good library and back catalog this just feels like the ideal one stop location for the kind of games that I enjoy and want to play on a console. Outside of that I got a gaming laptop, a Steam Deck, and a Switch, and with all of those I feel like I got my bases covered.

I kind of feel like playstation had been better the previous few generations.

But the current new generation is different, as it seems microsoft has secured alot of exclusives, namely bethesda. Also the old excuse of I got PS4 because all my friends and coworkers have PS4 is now void with cross platform play.

Still though I am going to wait a while for the dust to settle before I make a decision on the next gen. As even with all that said it still seems the majority of my coworkers and friends that game are still on PS4 and haven't made the jump to next gen consoles yet.

It's kind of weird actually, I remember when the previous two generation consoles came out everyone jumped over almost instantly. This time around new gen consoles have been out almost two years and people are still on the previous generation. I guess it is economic woes and the chip shortage causing it

A lot of the games are still currently backwards compatible on old consoles which probably plays a part. For example, pretty much every new xbox game out is still playable on xbox one, i know this happened a bit in previous gens but not as much IIRC.

Honestly I probably would have been fine staying on my Xbox One X longer, I was really satisfied with that, but the Series X just works a lot better for keeping up with the latest and taking advantage of GamePass. The cross-gen support has been great for the most part and Xbox has been known for it's unrivaled backwards compatibility support.

Honestly my thing is, if I already got a Series X for Forza and GamePass, do I really want a PS5 so I can play something like Returnal or a Demon Souls remake? None of that really appeals to me and GT7, the game I was originally going to get a PS5 for, turned out to be a massive disappointment that I already own and played on my old launch day PS4.

Next gen gaming just doesn't seem to have much to offer right now for the most part. That's why I think GamePass has been such a big deal, especially for the Series S if you're really casual. The chip shortage has definitely been hitting it hard as well, like if you want a Series X or a PS5 you have to REALLY want one because that means either signing up for the Microsoft or Sony waiting list and being on the lookout for when it becomes available, obsessing over online store availability opportunities, or paying a big scalpers fee on Ebay or Amazon.

I think most people just don't want to deal with that chit, if they can't just easily order it online or go out to a store and buy it, it's just too much effort on their end. Not everyone is a gamer who wants to go out of their way for these things, most people have lives to live and greater priorities.
