Bringing lifting back to the Misc, one thread at a time.
Sup bros, Sunday 5/15.
Today is Back+Shoulders day, AKA V-taper day, AKA get yoked day, AKA the true moggening day.
Already know it's gonna be a thick, solid, tight workout.
It's early and Sunday so I'm sure not many miscers are gonna come in here just yet, but what are ya'll hitting today?

Have a good workout brah
What does the rest of your split look like? Back/shoulders, chest/arms, legs?
I'm supposed to do lower body today so deficit deads, Bulgarians, and maybe some back squats with my heels 6" apart elevated on a plate real slow those always murder my quads. Abs and calves after that 100-150 reps each.

I did chesticles this morning. Some moderate cardio as well. Pretty good workout, awesome way to start the day, as always.

Chest/Legs day (I know it is an odd way to do things, but I strongly dislike working Chest. I've never enjoyed it tbh. So I pair it with Legs because I love hitting legs, so I end up being much more consistent with my chest as well because I'm already at the gym to do the workout.)
Random other chit day (arms, core, calves, fun random stuff like heavy carries, etc. I only do this one sporadically, based on my week's work schedule since it changes every week. Kind of a place-holder when I don't want to truly go ham with either of the other two workouts)
Solid-azz lower body day you've got there, man. I was in another thread a few days ago talking about how a fukking sick Leg day really only needs a Squat, a Hinge and a unilateral movement - you've got those three and boom, excellent workout.

Today is Sunday so no training for me. But no need to 'bring back' here. Every M/Tu/Thu/Fri, I will be in the gym. 12 years on a comeback, no skipping. Through injuries, sickness, even a fractured spine, I have trained (with Dr's blessing on spinal fracture).
7 months till I turn 50.
Consistency trumps all. NOT just in the gym, but entire lifestyle is a goal driven one. Just like my Sunday rest. Going to go cut the grass and do some yard work with shirt off so I can get a tan
Leg pic....because not enough willing to post them

Will do a 20+ mile bike ride, and will probably stop at the gym on that ride and try to get a couple lifts in. Have some serious elbow pain right now though( I think Tennis Elbow), so definitely need to limit myself though until it heals.

What do you do for Calves? I can't grow those bastards nor do they ever respond to anything I throw at them.

What do you do for Calves? I can't grow those bastards nor do they ever respond to anything I throw at them.
Lately I've been focusinga loton the loaded stretch portion of calve movements.
All the time you see guys loading up weight and getting stronger at the contracting portion, without really paying attention to the lowering or even really a solid ROM/stretch at the bottom (being honest with oneself here is important, I know I used to half-azz that part).
Recently I decided to try kind of the opposite. I get on whatever implement I want to use (usually a standing machine) and as I add weight, I'll let my calves stretch fully, and just sit under the weight for multiple seconds, engaging them the whole time right there at the bottom portion, and then a good contraction towards the top and good slow descent back to the fully stretched position where I again stay there for multiple full seconds.
The trick to it is making sure they are still engaged. You're notliterallylooking to stretch your calves while doing this, which often times means relaxing them fully. You want to get to the end of your ROM and still be engaged, holding the weightright therefor a lot longer than you're used to. Feeling your calves rather than your Achilles at the bottom, the muscle engaged but at it's longest length.
I'm gonna keep doing this for awhile, but honestly I've only been doing it a few weeks and I think mine look a hair better already (and I'm not even super consistent with them - they are on my "random other chit" day of my split).

Repped!
The state of the misc is pathetic these days. It's punctuated by a bunch of garbage posts from non-lifters, so it's nice to see an actual lifting thread.
On my end, my push day was Friday morning followed by a cheat window where I had some pizza, danishes, and German beer.
Pull day tomorrow

In on lifting thread.
Starting tomorrow, I am introducing phase potentiation into my strength-focused periodization. I will run a 5 week full body hypertrophy program, followed by a strength focused program. The idea is that the increased muscle size will help me develop strength. I am 100% an intermediate strength lifter, so I will focus more on specificity than the importance of periodization as I am doing my program. That being said, I have never actually ran a bodybuilding program ever so wish me luck.
I am also focusing on improving my squat strength. I squatted with light weight for 20 reps to see what bodypart was sore first. The idea goes that whatever is sorest/sore first is the part of the body that needs more work. In my case, the hip adductor muscles were the only thing that really got sore, followed by my lower quads. Does anyone have any hip adductor exercise recommendations that I can add in with my squats?

Doing PPL I take it? Do you do once per week or do you try to hit things twice?

Iwishmy gym had some solid strongman stuff. I kind of add in a few similar movements here and there as best I can, but it's obviously not the same as having the real implements.

Doing PPL I take it? Do you do once per week or do you try to hit things twice?
You got this man. Gonna be a good Sunday, I can feel it.
Fukking sick man!
Iwishmy gym had some solid strongman stuff. I kind of add in a few similar movements here and there as best I can, but it's obviously not the same as having the real implements.

Get a squat rack/yoke combo (bells of steel is cheapest and good quality) if you’re American then titan has some cheap strongman stuff
Buy a log and axle
Farmers handles
Meet other strongmen and borrow or split purchasing stone molds
Other stuff I have-various natural stones, 250lb sandbag, cable pulley to attach to yoke. Built a platform. Looking for some big tires.
Heavy ass farmers walks are the greatest lift ever. Nothing wrecks my entire body. Should be a staple for every football, rugby, hockey player and grappler.

What do you do for Calves? I can't grow those bastards nor do they ever respond to anything I throw at them.

I used to annihilate my calves. I stopped doing that.
I started to do true 'heavy' calf work. Legit weights that I could only do for 8-10 reps, strict form, no bouncing. Press hold, etc. I stopped wasting time on any seated movement. I also brought in uni-lateral assisted movements. But only about 2 sets per workout. I trained them 3 days / week like this. But only did the uni-lateral assisted 2x/ week.
Long story short, after about a 15 years stall in calf growth I got them to grow. They are by no means great, but they are not laughable either and every now and again, I will actually get a compliment. I stay very lean and even when I dont, my legs look close to contest lean of most people. So there is no fat to 'fill them out'. But the time and changing the way I hit them actually worked.
Pic below was me as a 'baby' at 21. You can see just about everything on my body grew pretty easily but I had pencil calves

But still today close to 17" they still look small-ish, but lean

My gymmightbe getting a belt squat this year - what are your thoughts on using it as a primary leg movement now and then instead of BB squats (Like doing a 12 week chunk once per year where you give BB squatting a break and just use/progress on belt squat)? I've never used one before, but I love the concept of it.
