I actually agree. Morality is derived from Natural Law philosophy, based in objective facts about teleology and formal causation about entities (which is why there can't be a trans-woman, or trans-man, since they are still genetically their born sex and are directed to their respective ends of procreation.

Having said that, I don’t really like a lot of atheists because it’s too easy to mock religion. I go to church with my mom once a month and despite believing none of it, I do enjoy the sense of community it brings. People coming together to try to be better. That’s a special thing and you really can’t get that from any kind of secular church. What are you gonna say? “Yup....there’s still no god....”

It’s a shame that the masses need a false idol that violates every law in the universe to bring us together on a weekly basis but I can’t see any other way to do it. I’m glad that there are lots of people out there believing someone is watching over them and keeping them accountable. I like a lot of the Christian values that I was taught as a kid. I don’t wanna see that all swept away, even if it’s all a delusion.

Our morality is guided by the stories we tell ourselves and each other. Each story is dependent on other stories being true of which it is based on, they are the foundational stories. In our culture, the foundational stories are in the bible.

In a foundational story where it’s better to turn the other cheek, all stories springing from that will make it a virtue to turn the other cheek. In foundations stories where the appropriate response is vengeance, then the subset of stories that spring from that will send the same message.

Religion is a natural phenomena, we will create it one way or the other. And from religion stems all of the other stories which our culture and laws are based on.

We take for granted that all life is valuable and divine, that is a a fundamental belief from “man created in gods image”. The vikings had a different set of beliefs and they didn’t value life the same way.
