๐Ÿ“Œ Bench Press 220lb (100kg) x 3 : Age 62 and Regaining Strength Back!

It seemsLow Intensity & High frequency W/Ois working.

Slowly but steadily, little by little I'm regaining old strength back. (Not my best for my 1RM was 264 lb (120kg) and 220lb (100kg) x 7 was my best record before my injuries. However, shoulder pain is not as severe as before, I'm really grateful for that.)

I know many of you guys here can bench press a lot much heavier than I and this isn't a big deal to you. But to me, this is a new hope because I thought I had to face and eventually accept my post-injury performance as my new reality. But this day's w/o result shows me that careful adjustment of my training intensity, volume and frequency might help me regain some of my former strength.

I want to say thanks to misc for your support and friendship!! Without you I'm nothing. *bow*

โญBench Press 220lb (100kg) x 3 (2022/05/25)

At age 62, it's been a long time since I bench pressed 220lb (100kg) for reps last time. I have been rehabilitating using lighter weights due to my shoulder injuries. I'm really glad that I can still do this.

good job srs

but why dont you invest in a better rack? seems like you're being super careful not to knock the stuff over when you rack it .. thats the last thing you want to be focusing on after a heavy set.

Thanks mate! I am sure you can row much heavier than me

I could not go as heavy as bigger guys with bent-over-rows due to my small frame but Chin-ups don't need much small back involvement. I have to take every advantage I have.

Every time I got injured due to the w/o, it's when I was on a roll without exception.

So I try to be very cautious especially when I feel I'm ready to go heavy. At my age, knowing when to stop is the most important thing to keep me from getting injured.

So when someone points out my training volume, most likely it's time for me to slow down a bit. *bow*

The only thing you have to do is, "not to quit" and for that the key is for you to enjoy lifting weights.

True, I was attracted to weights because I wanted to get ripped and all but it soon became a passion. Seeing what your body can do, knowing you can move something heavy, it's just fun.

Sorry to hear about that. But you and I could try to find the joy of aging art even after we're past our prime!!

I've been training at home gym from the start. So I got used to doing it without a spotter.

^^^ 2008 video. While my 1RM at that time was about 264 lb (120kg), the video demonstrates that I was able to recover from intentional failure at 140kg(308lb) which was well over my 1RM.

I can recover from failed BP as heavy as I could put the bar off the rack myself.

Thanks brother, not as impressive as you! Means a lot coming from you. *bow*

One of the reasons I don't have any safety rack in my home gym is too small so I have to use a standard 28mm, 1.8m (6 ft) bar instead of an Olympic bar, 2.2 m (7.2 ft) . Also my room ceiling is lower than the American standard.

Another reason is that I also work (WFH) and sleep (in futon bed) in this very room. So every time before and after my workout, I have to rearrange(and back) my room.

I wish I had a larger home gym...

Thatโ€™s impressive my brother . I was benching 225-5 pre Covid , actually in Feb 2019 .
I know the actual date when things went south , because I got deathly ill in March 2019 , (not Covid they claimed) and I never recovered my strength .
I always swore Iโ€™d rep 225 when Iโ€™m 65 , but havenโ€™t since the incident. To make matters worse I had an incident, and havenโ€™t been able to pump iron since sep last year . Seems as though I canโ€™t get my brain to quit bleeding when I get back on my blood thinners in order to avoid a stroke from my atrial fibrillation .
So hopefully things improve and I get back at it someday , as I really miss it . Bet I couldnโ€™t bench 185 right now lol , but Iโ€™ve seen how muscle memory has worked in the past , so I think in 3 months I could get it back .

Anyways good on you doing it

I feel you, my friend.

And also agree, we could get it back! As long as we are alive, there's hope always.
