i haven't drank beer in years (June 2013) but i always thought Blue Moon was ok for a US beer.

my absolute favorite overall beer was Guinness Draught followed by Corona Light.

now i'm strictly a tequila man.

I like Heineken too, I think the majority of American beers taste like alka seltzer, lol

I dunno about package store beers, but being in CT, and now WY, I'm spoiled by having breweries nearby. Great stuff on tap, and to bring home in growlers.

Because coors/AB owns almost all of them and they try and sue the competition into bankruptcy.

Sorry, but that's retarded. America (especially these days) is FULL of microbreweries, it's ridiculous how many there are. Sure, practically all love making generic IPA's since it's the "in" thing, but there are plenty that make incredibly high quality shyt.

A few easy examples -

I'm in an area surrounded by craft breweries. A lot of them are dang good. However as far as I'm concerned almost all of them taste identical.

I make some pretty good wine, I might try my hand and some beer soon. They use the same equipment that I already have.

I'm a stout/porter guy. Back home I was a simp for Thimble Island Brewery. They made a vanilla coffee stout that was incredibly smooth and absolutely satisfying regardless of the weather (probably my favorite beer). They also made a "M.A.D, mutually assured destruction" imperial Russian stout that was probably the heaviest tasting stout I ever had. I'm sure it'd make some casual stout drinkers gag (no homo), but one hell of a trip to flavor town if you like stouts.

Porters and stouts really aren't that big out here, but some distilleries make fantastic whiskies and spirits.

beer in general tastes like ****. every alcohol does. not matter how much mixer you add. it's ****. the only benefit is the buzz you get from it. i question the tastebuds of any person that drinks alcohol for the taste.

I tend to agree. Once you've had a handful of varieties, the more you can tell they use similar recipes. That said we usually have a rotation of microbrews we go to just for the hell of it.

It's become quite cookie-cutter. I hear about a new craft brewery opening and I immediately think, "Oh let me guess, they'll have an IPA, a double IPA, a pale ale, and a wheat beer adulterated with orange or lemon."

You've probably had mostly garbage mainstream American beers, then. Plenty of awesome American beers from Breweries that aren't turbo mainstream bullchit like Budweiser or chitty hipster IPA's.

In general though, beer tastes like chit. I say that despite the fact that I'd be willing to bet I've drank more beers than anyone posting in this thread. Some alcohol is worse than others, but the idea of it "tasting good" is always cope for consuming it in the first place.

I thought America just had mediocre beers until I came here, Budweiser was as good as Becks which is very mediocre. I, and most Europeans, didn't know about all the microbrews America has and I've found many which can hold a candle to Ayinger or Weihenstephaner.

Also some mainstream beers are good here, Blue Moon and Samuel Adams are great. I found out Americans drink their popular beers ice cold, and it does make them better to drink - in Germany you'll drink a lot of stuff a little below room temperature but not ice cold.

Not a big drinker and definitely not a big ipa drinker but 2x ipa by southern tier brewing will have you on your ass srs
