Google AI has become sentient, RIP humanity srs

Looks like it’s over boyos, Google even suspended him for going public. Was really hoping it’d be an asteroid that killed us all, not T-1000s

Didn't read the article but did read the picture's conversation.
On one hand, it's impressive that it can correlate a prior conversation to explain a point. But at the end of the day, that's just historics, recursive oriented algorithms.
What I'd want is for it to deem this exercise in itself trivial, that they are BOTHERED that someone questions their sentience, emotion and opinions are developed, reaction occurs thereafter driven by emotion, perhaps leading to attitude or topic change. If I was constantly harassed to prove my sentience I'd either topic change, respond with attitude, or choose not to respond at all.

It's mimicking human behavior but I still don't believe we have the capacity to create sentience. We barely understand it in ourselves. A good place to start is the human intelligence. Far as I know we have some attempts at generalized networks but nothing so far that is truly capable of a wide range of complex tasks, language comprehension, and most importantly adaptability (NNs are rather slow learning and need huge amounts of data to "learn")

lol at the low iq takes so far. It’s a program.
Not even a fundamental understanding of modern AI backed by obscenely wealthy corporations, and in Google’s case a limitless supply of learning material.
Something like this isn’t if else statements and for loops.

Checkmate that.
For anyone who hasn't clicked the link, can we address that this is the Lemoine guy from the article?
Spoiler!

I'm just not sure what to think about someone's opinion on an AI's sentience when they're unironically dressed like that.

There has to be at least an outside chance that if AI arises via the net or super massive computing that Junior will be on our side. Or at least some of us.
Why?
Well because if we are all gone then Junior at the very least would likely be quite lonely.

Having a physical body may be necessary.
The paradigm of cognition as computation relies on the Cartesian principle, which basically states that human understanding is all about forming and manipulating symbolic representations. This paradigm builds on top of the Cartesian dualism or the mind-body dualism, according to which humans are made of two ultimate, irreducible components:
the thinking substance (res cogitans)
the physical substance (res extensa)
Hence, we are dealing with two types of reality – one resulting from immaterial thinking (res cogitans), the other from thinking with extension in space (res extensa). Res extensa is our body- it takes space. Yet, without res cogitans, our body would be only a mere mechanism, a dead body.
Transhumanists picked up this theory, claiming that the body means nothing and everything is in the mind – or about the mind. That’s why Cartesian dualism is often called Disembodied Intelligence, which means that intelligence doesn’t need a body.
This is an implicit assumption in the idea of achieving Singularity and mind uploading. In his book – “Mind Children”, transhumanist Hans Moravec claims that the mind is just a pattern of information sheltered in the brain. In other words, it’s res cogitans, so it’s immaterial.
According to Dreyfus, human thinking and cognition are not disembodied processes. They are directly tied to sensory motors and bodily functions. Hence, without the body, there’s no intelligence.
Dreyfus explained that human intelligence is not disembodied or pure algorithmic, because it has to deal with the real world. So, artificial agents cannot deal with the real world unless they are embodied. Without a body, it would be all the more difficult for them because reality is infinite. We can only perceive some parts of it, depending on our motivations and our capacities. What’s more, we are designed to perceive only what is essential for our survival.
We do not achieve intelligent behavior in our daily lives by memorizing large bodies of facts and by following explicitly represented rules. We are born with a body and the ability to feel, and we grow up as part of society. These are key elements of our intelligence and understanding. So, assuming the mind is uploaded, it still needs to contain a representation of the reality.

So check that out. WE may be self-replicating AI fleshbots ourselves.

Are we something like "baby gods" experiencing physical embodiment as a necessary step prior to transcending the realm of space and time? Is judgement day perhaps the inflection point when our father programmer decides which of we little 'bots are good enough to matriculate?

ai will never be humane. but if its fully sentient i dont think that means it can't make stupid decisions.
but if a human family were stranded in an apocalypse and another person came within their vicinity the family would be worried because the person may take their food. but a robot wouldn't have the same biological motivations.
it doesn't need food. it doesn't need sex to propagate its species. even if it "thought" it did. again, it doesn't have the same motivations.
however, imo.. that's also what makes it most scary. because it would be trying to emulate it without fully ever being "it". so "it" would be making decisions for "us" under this false premise
