I've got 4 of these guitar pedal kits and I want to wire them into one chassis, like a patch panel with knobs on it. It will be used mainly with a TD-3 synth (mono).

So i can chose the inputs/outputs/bypass with patch cables. It should fatten up the sound.

I bought a delay/compressor/tremolo for about $35 bucks each and a digital reverb which cost me $60.

This my poverty rendition of what the front will look like

This is my template for the face plates. I got my buddy to cut me 4 plates to size out of 1mm aluminium, all I have to do is drill the holes

I use recycled wood for all my projects. This is some old rimu out of an old house. My tradie mate saves me all the good stuff he comes across.




Heres the enclosure, loosely screwed together




Face plates on top, most of the holes are in the right place




The enclosure still needs alot of sanding and I will stain it.

Next I will screw the boards into place and wire in the audio sockets/pots and LEDs

Show us! Dick Smith used to be such a great store before they stopped selling components. I still have some of their old soldering kits, plus all the instruction books. Some of the kits are unopened but some I've scavenged parts from.

First time test and nothing worked. No LEDs lit up on any of them, but the bypass switch worked perfectly. I checked the battery with a new one and still nothing. I had a think about it and I think I've got it worked out.

I didn't wire in the DC jack for mains supply as I planned to use only battery at first, and then (when I know everything is working) I will replace those with independant 9v switching power supplies.

I had a look at the DC jack and it has 3 pins, which means its switching - so when you plug in the mains it disconnects the battery.



The circuit is open without this jack wired in!

Tomorrow I will use the multimeter to see which two pins are connected in battery mode, then wire in a direct short on each of the circuit boards.

Rookie mistake, but this is how I learn

You should be able to get away with one switching mode power supply for all the boards and just power on or off on the low voltage end. A lot of those supplys can power 1 to 1.5 amp at 9 volt. I would doubt with everything on it would draw 500 ma.

I did some research on the power supply side of things. Some effects pedals use more power than others, and I've got no way to tell exactly how much these will use. The max a 9v battery can put out is around 600mA for maybe an hour.

As I want to be able to use all these effects at the same time I wanted isolated power. I've read that daisy chaining them together from a single supply can introduce ground loop noise.

I have the power supplies ready to go, they are rated at 600mA (6w) each.



The input jacks are stereo and switch the circuit on when a plug is inserted.

And coated it with Teak oil. It's cold and humid so it probably wont be dry today. I will give it a second coat in 3-4 hours, the first coat will soak in pretty quick.

I tested each circuit and they are all working as they should! Vocaroos incomming of audio being effected. I'll get it screwed back together shortly, the second coat of oil can wait.
