Do you need to be below a certain IQ to be a cop in the US?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...olice-van.html

Tl;dr suspect breaks neck when police van abruptly stops, says he can't move, cops ignore pleas and drag the guy out of the van. Now paralysed and on a breathing tube

Even people who aren't first aid trained probably have the sense not to move a subject who has suffered a serious neck injury

What is it with US cops? It's like down syndrome is a legit prerequisite for the job

Dunno.
But in Australia you need to be below a certain IQ to be in the military

Actually yes, police departments regularly discriminate against more intelligent applicants. Their reasoning is anyone who is too intelligent will grow bored and switch careers after going through expensive training that their respective city has to go pay for.

But there's another reason, apathy. How many deadbeats and criminals can you meet per day before you stop giving a fuk about any of them?
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

If you've watched a lot of bodycam/police videos, you'll see that the vast majority of people in that situation make fake complaints about being uncomfortable, etc. I watched one the other day of a guy who kidnapped a kid, was involved in a vehicle pursuit, crashed, then got out and was begging the cops to have sympathy for him and seemed at the verge of tears.

The cop in this case probably thought he was faking and complaining like every other person who was fine after their ride to jail.

What high IQ person would risk getting shot everyday for 40k? Just join an elite branch of the military and go get shot at for double the money. Can't imagine people with other options dealing with the low level cop chit day in and day out. Constantly having low class street urchins lying to your face.

there is legal justification to discriminate against higher IQ people.

https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/court-...story?id=95836

With this and the legal justification to not have to save us, cops being dumb and useless is not just a meme lol.

another miscer told me this specific case was the result of someone applying when they were close to retiring age, age is a protected demographic so they used his IQ instead.

That makes sense and could be the case but as dude up there said, high IQ people have options and once they realize how chitty being a cop is, they bounce after a few months wasting the money the department spent on training them.

Yep. The acceptable iq range for cops is 80-120, studies suggest having an iq outside of this range makes them counterproductive to the system.

Heard on Rogan about 4-5 years ago from some now-prominent former cop saying that they turn away cadets or whatever that are too smart. When you see the dumb sht a few of them do in national news, it's hard to argue that it's NOT all over the country. I'm not anti-cop by any means, but I do think these wannabe cowboys need to be held accountable.

What others have said. A lot of departments actually do weed out applicants with bright futures.

I also thought this thread was going to be about the LAPD cop who was beaten to death by his own fellow officers.

Can confirm. The main reason I've heard is because the cop can go rogue. Meaning they are smart enough to fully evaluate a situation on their own then go against regular law if that's what the circumstance calls for.

Its not all black and white, there's allot of grey area and the government doesn't like that. They want you to think like a robot AKA only see the law and nothing else.

To me this is similar to losing your humanity. No disrespect to the boys in blue, we do need them.

agreed, there are a lot of amazing people in the field, but as an institution, it is fugged man. And it is the results of some individuals. It is psychological, peep the Stanford prison experiment.

Cops experience the same thing man. In general, it is taken way too personal and the ideas they pass around are extremely exaggerated. I maintain the impression a lot of them do feel it is “us against them” and everyone is breaking the law and/or a threat to them.

Obviously that is not the norm, it is an exception to the norm. In their minds though, they can’t help but pretend it is the norm.

this

joining police or military in the USA is a joke

it is definitely an allocation based on potential limitations

I think there was a minimum IQ for the military stated at 80

now, there is no for, say, medical school, but think about what the minimum IQ would be (set naturally by the benchmark competition) for an Ivy league medical school spot

In fact, I am lol-ing hard at the military one even more

Who care about lying? lol

Cops literally just lie back. (legally allowed to)

I feel there are greater stressors on a regular basis than some stranger lying. Then you just throw on an extra “interfering with government operations/investigation” charge on there to spite them.

You don't want police officers who can critically think. You want people who will obey rules. Just like in the military.

I imagine a lot of cops and prison guards are bullies and sadists who managed to restrain themselves from committing crimes until they got a badge and could do so with the law on their sides.

Very true. The US armed forces are a resiviour of able bodied men that elites can throw at countries until the finacial tide turns in their favor. Problem is the military has had some incredable world changing accomplishments in the past. Even present day we do great things, so calling them all low IQ knuckle draggers tied to Rosenblats puppet strings is innacurate, however if you enlist as a private in infantry at age 18, you are signing a contract to die for the finicial intrists of elites, no arguing that.
