I liked guided meditation. I usually do it for sleep though, but that's where I'd start.

You can find some good stuff on YouTube!

Yeah it takes some time and starting off the right environment. Its actually super hard to stay awake and relieve your mind of wandering thoughts. So thats why they tell you to focus on your breath.

Guided medication as Redraider recommends is a great start.

But like most things....it takes time. You cant just try it once and say "doesnt work"
Thats like a fat dude going to the gym for an hour and looking in the mirror to see results.

The purpose of meditation is to not think about anything in order to remove anxiety producing thoughts and things like that.

Some people will say a word over and over.

Some will count a sequence of number s over and over.

The idea is to make what you're thinking meaningless. So, if you said "cupcakes" a thousand times it would be a nonsense word blocking out other thoughts. When you finally aren't thinking you are meditating.

I find lifting weights a form of meditation because while I am lifting I can't think about much because I am concentrating on the lift and counting reps. If I'm jogging or biking, in the gym, I tend to think a lot so that does not work.

Whatever you are doing when you are not thinking you are in a meditative state.

a common mistake people make is trying to think of nothing which is counterproductive. instead let everything enter your main but...i really don't know how to explain it but let everything melt and just float in your mind.

Dont try to think of nothing, you'll be focusing and stress out

Instead, let your hand off the steering wheel of your thoughts and let the movie play on it's own.

Dont think the thought

Let any images, sounds, feelings, come to you, do not focus on them, and let them slip by and relax

yup thats tough. Or maybe try early morning/late night.

Additionally you can try to find a temple. Those places are built for that. ONe of the best experiences I ad was getting into deep meditation at one that my mom brought me to. I was there for 2 hours, it literally felt like 10 mins but I was not asleep. Was one of the most peaceful and calming experiences of my life. I went back a few times to try to replicate that feeling but couldnt get there. Its a trip man.

Beating myself with a stick, while shouting i Hate this ego and this body. Surprisingly i feel super great afterwards! I really get in touch with my true self. My sesshins last from 10 minutes to 1 hour. If i can't find a spot, public bathrooms works quite ok, also if you dont have a stick, using a belt or anything that inflicts a 6/10 on the medium pain scale should cut it! Happy meditation

Try visualizing something.

When I was first learning to meditate I would visualize a Stop sign, thinking of every single little detail. As though it would come to life the moment you made it "real".

Everytime my mind wondered I would visualize that to re-center myself.

IMO the goal of mediation is that there is no goal - so just sit there and observe your thoughts and emotions and let them pass... with enough practise you'll be more mindful, less compulsive, and have less care for anything, but be better at everything.
