now that the honeymoon phase is over... Elden ring is overrated af
It's not a bad game by any means, but it's not as great as i first thought
honestly, it's not even the best souls game
first half or 1/4 of the game was good, then it just got boring af with repeated bosses (basically) and uninspired locations

It’s pretty solid but overrated is the right word
Nobody saves the world, stray, tunic, shredders revenge, Mario strikers, all are vastly superior titles and when indies are better then a supposedly aaa title that is saying a lot imo.

nah, top 10 game of all time. would be top 5 if it had some sort of manageable quest tracking system. Hopefully itsmassive success will pave the way for more games with similar ideals (single player focus, no handholding, no microtransactions, etc)

I really enjoyed it... until I didn't. Which is very weird.
Aside from the few long quests, there isn't much story to hold such a large game together. The other souls game being confined with relatively little movement to get to the next section, that wasn't an issue. You were constantly getting bits and pieces. This is just kind of a slog after a while.

Of the 4 playthroughs, I've done 2 total exploration-type runs and 2 boss rush and it's definitely a 9/10 game. The real fun comes with NG+ runs and full weapon inventory to start with and a heap of laval tears.
I just finished another DS3 run however and that is an easy 9.5 with the DLC's even though it's a very linear game.

Still goat Still playing. On my 3rd play through, just taking my time with a new character trying to enjoy the world and not over level.
The content is really great. Fighting is the best of any video game ever created. Weapons are so variable and so many unique builds.
The game can get dumb if you overlevel on the death chicken and grab the most powerful weapon/ash combo early on, but then you are just robbing yourself of an excellent gaming experience.
It's also not a very difficult game. Original Everquest was and still is probably the most punishing, besides the games where you only ever get one life.

Outside of the chitty quest system it's a really great game. Boss fights are tough but fair with the hardest one even being optional.
Some of the underground sections and their minibosses were a little too similar I'll give you that. You could ignore those and still have a fantastic game so just look at those sections as bonus content.

I prefer the much more linear and short Souls games.
Open world doesn't do this any justice. I ended up exploring everything and collecting everything before going into the new area and my guy is severely overleveled and the game just became too easy. Whereas in the other Souls games it was always a perfect difficulty.

Of course it's overrated. Hard to be too critical of it, but one thing that I can say about it is how the game is definitely no Elder Scrolls title. Like I'm sure you could say the combat is better in Elden Ring, but the world just isn't the type that I can really get lost in like Elder Scrolls games.
Like I guess this just feels like far more of a straight up action oriented game for me. Pretty much all my time is spent just wandering around and battling chit. In a game like Skyrim so much of my enjoyment comes from interacting with all the depth they gave locations and the ways you can interact with NPC's and the little world they created. The world of Elden Ring by comparison feels much more like a MMO world. It's a much more focused game.
So like everything, I'd say it all comes down to taste. I have never been a fan of Dark Souls games, they never really appealed to me, and the only reason I really got into Elden Ring is because it changed up the formula enough with an open world to make it interesting to me. I can find myself enjoying it, but at the same time it's just not the type of game I am usually in the mood for.

So you didn't find the haligtree dungeon or nokron as exciting as castle morne or castle storm?
You didn't enjoy farum azula as much as you did caelid?
I thought the game got better and much more difficult as it went on. All of the main bosses were extremely memorable and challenging. I had to rebirth and build different weapons up just to get past Malelith and Malenia both.

Elden ring wasn’t overrated at all. The only downside imo to it was the chaotic mission quest. Game was easily a 9/10 for me.
