Lab grown meat is probably 5 years away. Maybe 10.

All they need is maybe an impending food crisis…

I won’t ever be eating it but could be an investment opportunity.

Is lab grown meat meant to be the same as beyond meat? I always understood beyond meat as vegan chit thrown together to try and imitate meat. Would lab grown meat be an attempt to just grow real meat out of a test tube?

I know little to nothing about lab grown meat.

Lab based meat will be a big deal in 10 years. Not that I agree with it.

I’m thinking gamble $1k on a penny stock and leave it 10 years.

The only public lab-based meat company you can invest in (at the moment in the US) is MeaTech 3D (MITC).

If it tasted good I would eat it as I do not like killing animals.

However, I don't think they are close to achieving a real product. I say that because a couple years ago they were pretending to be about to have success, but then nothing happened. That means companies were trying to fool investors.

When you really know how to do something you don't have to fool anyone.

Anyway, to get real meat, you need to have layers and layers of the protein and I don't think they can do that. If they could make ground meat, that might be great but I don't think they can grow it very fast.

I'm not sure this technology is real.

Israel is now home to the world's first lab-grown meat production facility, a plant that is able to produce the equivalent of up to 5,000 burgers every single day. Called Future Meat Technologies, the company has ushered in the era of industrial-tier cultured meat production — and it's already eyeing a big expansion into the US.

Future Meat Technologies announced its industrial cultured meat facility on June 23, stating that it is capable of producing up to 1,100lbs of lab-grown meat every day. That's equal to around 5,000 hamburgers, according to Future Meat, which explains that the plant is a key aspect of bringing its business to market.

Assuming everything goes as planned, the company plans to start selling its cultured meat products next year, offering consumers an alternative to traditional meat products that result from raising and slaughtering livestock.

At this point, the facility is already able to produce lamb, chicken, and pork products without using genetic modification or animal serum. Future Meat says that it will soon also be able to start production on beef, too. The industrial cultured meat facility can produce these products around 20 times faster than the rate of the product acquired from traditional animal livestock.


A key benefit of cultured meat is its minimized impact on the environment. Future Meat Technologies says this facility requires 96-percent less freshwater than livestock production, as well as using 99-percent less land and producing 80-percent fewer greenhouse emissions.

What don't you agree with? The Frankensteinian risk of something horrible?

IMO, if they get it right, far more humane, no animals dying and plenty of meat. Plus, down the road, someone could have their own organs grown and replacing bad ones, no risk of organ rejection (or little) as it would share your exact DNA. Why not get a new liver, heart or kidney?I'll go one further -- provided it tasted simply okay and did not cause unforeseen health issues (ie no more risky that whatever risk from regular meat) I'd eat it over killing animals. I like meat but I generally eat it to hit macros. If it came down to eating a slightly bland but edible prodcut that got me 100g protein and no dead animals Vs a delicious steak, I'd take the hit.

you need blood to flow through the meat to get a lot of the flavor. Who knows what else. Lab grown "meat" will not be the same.
