A Long Island woman was killed and her body found mutilated in her backyard after she was attacked by a dog that belonged to her step-son, who died just weeks ago, according to police.

After leaving for work Wednesday morning, the woman’s husband returned to the home on Terrace Court in Albertson around 1 p.m. to find his 70-year-old wife mangled and mauled in the backyard, the pit bull still going at her body, police said.

The man called police, and an officer who responded to the scene shot the dog after the canine turned and charged at him. The officer was taken to the hospital, police said, traumatized after what he had seen in the yard.
The 7-year-oldpit bullgolden retriever belonged to the woman’s step-son, who died less than two weeks ago in a motorcycle crash, according to police. He and the dog had lived at the parents’ house, and the parents had been looking after the canine since the step-son’s death.

are pitbulls just wired differently? biologically more prone to fukking chit up? all these srs attacks seem to involve pits.

Every Pomeranian I’ve ever known is a yappy dog. Every border collie is high energy and loves to fetch. Every husky is an escape artist that lives to roam. Akitas are quiet protectors. Dobermans whine. Aussie shepherds herd and nip at ankles. My Bernese mountain dogs all have the same couch dog personalities.
These are innate traits and we can admit they exist for every other breed.

But the dog that was bred for fighting shouldn’t be demonized for its repeated unprovoked killings?

Why? There are hundreds of breeds of dogs. This was a breed that only existed to fight and not even recognized until 1930. Just eliminate them. It’s not like it’s an orangutan going extinct. It’s a man made animal from 2 breeds that still exist.

They took the strongest most aggressive dog they could find and bred it with another to make it more agile.no other trait was considered. The American kennel club refused to acknowledge their existence. The UK kennel club did because the supported dog fighting. Their whole history is ****ed. They aren’t even good guard dogs. You’re way better off with a German shepherd or Rottweiler who also have been bred for favourable personality traits (intelligence, loyalty, predictability etc).

Actually, you are right. Wolves have a really strong instinct of a social order and if you know what you are doing you'll be fine. Of course they won't be house pets and if you know what you are doing you won't leave them with anyone who doesn't know what they are doing either. Pits don't have social cues like even normal dogs. They have been bred to just fight. It's one reason they are so deadly to other dogs and even people because they will just go on the attack out of nowhere, no warning signs. They will act all friendly just so you or another dog will get close enough so they can attack because it's fun to them.

I always trigger dumb neighbors in the nextdoor app when they talk about a pit bull that is wandering the streets. I always say to shoot it before it mauls someone to death. There's always a moron that says, "I've had my fur baby pitty for 5 years and no issues so far."
