Passed CPA exam! Poverty reps til I'm out

Found out yesterday I passed the last section. Been studying since last April and have had no life since then. Getting out of the military next year so hoping this expands my options a little bit.

Time to be a wagie for corporate america.


I can finally start doing some of my hobbies that I haven't done in ages due to studying - ready to get back to playing guitar, hiking, camping and just getting outside more and away from my laptop screen.

Yea that's the goal. Going to get my resume ready - haven't updated it in 4 years. Want to do like 1 or 2 years at big 4 just for the experience and looks great on resume.

Passed mine 13 years ago now. Took about a year and half of hell. I'm in small public tax so tax season sucks but it's winter anyways. Rest of year is pretty relaxed.

Awesome man! I still need a few more college credits and then the experience requirement to actually get licensed but at least the hard part is over with.

Still weighing my options on what I want to do as far as audit vs tax or some sort of government job.

That's the hard part. In college I liked auditing but disliked tax. My job right out of college included both auditing and tax. Absolutely hated auditing (which we have since sold) and really like tax which I've been doing for 16 years now. You really don't know until you're in the field what it is that you enjoy.

Pro tip, (ex headhunter of accounting and finance for 17 years) Get 3 in, make senior, focus on publicly traded companies or financial services. If tax, do partnership tax that way you're able to go to a VC or hedge fund firm after.

Congrats OP. I got my CMA as it was more conducive to being a business owner, but the CPA exam seemed the harder of the two

Congrats! Going for your JD next? That is what a few friends of mine ended up doing, got their CPAs and next became attorneys.

Don't let all the number counting drive you crazy. And if the numbers do, if the company places you in a back corner far from everyone else don't take it personally. They all seem to go a little nutty in accounting, at least we used to joke about that.
