recent car accident

Totally the other person's fault. They ran a red light. If I hadn't reacted quicker, we would have been t boned at 40ish mph. Instead, nobody was hurt in our car and neither was the person who ran the light which is great.
My car is totalled. The person who caused the accident didn't have insurance either (despite being a newish vehicle).
****ing people smh. Liability is not THAT expensive. At least nobody got hurt.

Lets say you didn't have insurance either, how would you get the other person to pay?

The other person doesn't pay either way
People with money do not drive without liability
OPs insurance will pay him out and possibly try for a judgement against the other driver but will never collect

Not a stupid question. Since its a law to have insurance, getting into a wreck with someone without insurance makes things much more complicated, which why I think the court made it a law, so that they don't have to deal with that stuff.

out of curiosity, was the other driver a mexican?, they account for the majority of uninsured drivers in accidents.


also, 1 in 4 drivers have no insurance in Florida lul

So...you have to pay for it? Fukin ridiculous. I hope they went to jail for driving without insurance. That's illegal in my state anyway.

This is why you need a strong police force to pull these people over and take away their vehicles, instead of making everyone else pay high insurance premiums.

Not unless Opie is uninsured as well. Part of your liability insurance is uninsured motorist coverage, which pays for your damages for accidents that would be the other driver's fault if they don't have insurance. The insurance company will then try to subrogate the costs against the other person, but if they are uninsured because they are poor and have no assets, they probably won't recover anything.

Would that effect your no claims and would your insurance premiums go up? Not sure how it works in US (I’m English). If it does that’s BS, punished for someone else’s idiocy.

If you live in an area in the US with a bunch of illegals and others with no insurance your rates will be higher vs somewhere else
If you live in an area with high theft your rates will be higher vs somewhere without
Insurance is just math and they figured it out over millions of claims and a hundred years

In most states, yes, you can be arrested for not having insurance.
