Gone full JDM Tuner on a British car? [pics]

Did some suspension mods on the Lotus and while the car was out of commission for a bit, I sent the wheels to be powder coated. Let my son pick the color. I was going to go with a motorsport inspired gold, but he picked white. I let him have the choice. So we have a wide-body JDM ....Lotus? This car is a lot of fun. Next track day is within a month. Cant wait to test out new mods on track!

Damn that thing is sick. I used to work with a guy that had one of those with a turboed S2000 motor or H22? Can’t remember exactly but the thing was scary fast.

Beautiful car. Been a fan since the 80's. There's actually a dealership close to me. Small, doesn't look like there's any inventory on the lot, and three cars in showroom. What's up with that?

Yea, people do K-swaps in them. I am keeping the 2ZZGE power plant. My main interest is tracking so balance is as important as total power. We are pushing a lot out of the 1.8. Currently about same power to weight as a Huracan. But over the winter I am doing a motor build and trans to hold it. Should be a formidable track car for sure. In current form, it can hang right there on track with a 3RS. Which is essentially the pinnacle of a street legal track car.

They are a fun car to drive. My favorite car I have ever owned. This is just going into the 'silly' zone, but it all functional. My goal is to keep it street legal, but as uncompromising a car as it can be. Just upgraded to very high rate springs on the coil overs and interested to see what it feels like. On high g corners I was taking out the fender liners so this should help.

They have been hanging on, but with introduction of the Emira (their new car) it may be a boost to the brand. Prior everything was still hand built etc. The Elise/Exige is basically built like a race car. You could not build one today with all the additional safety requirements. Just a super fun analog car to get to experience.

You would not like them if your user name is correct. She has implants.

She has a great figure, but she is very modest. As she gets closer to 50, most women ditch bikini's. But my wife can still wear one and look better than a lot of 20 year olds. She is not much on showing off, but one day texted me this. Literally the closest thing to 'sexting' she has ever done.

The selfie cam makes them look a little over the top fish eye lens style.

Certainly no complaints from me to have a wife that looks like this at 47. But the looks are only sprinkles on top.

Back on car topic. Today was an AWESOME day! My son drove us for the first time ever to a car meet. Memories and fun. Met up with friends and had a good time!

Just a joke man. Having fun with it. MISC is not always so bad.

Best pic of those is my son walking to the car. BIG day for us today. Normally he is riding with me and got to pass the torch to him and ride passenger to the meet. We meet up as friends and roll over there today. Was fun to see him get to be the driver. Life is good man! Dont ever be afraid to laugh at yourself.

I think you would enjoy it. I know some that have driven them and they are just a blast to drive. It is fun to have the excuse to just get out and drive for no reason. Although the track is a lot of fun, getting out on some country roads is always a blast (but you cant let the speed get out of hand!)

I have seen guys up to about 6'3 fit ok in them. Pedal box is very narrow and driving shoes are a must. I am only 5'9 but I am pretty wide in the shoulders at 48" chest. The cockpit is narrow and you are shoulder to shoulder with passenger. Without a removable steering wheel, if you have large legs, it is tough getting in and out because the door sills are so high and your legs have to go over sill, but under steering wheel. With the top on, it is quite a squeeze to get in and out of one regardless the size you are.

This vid illustrates that pretty well

I just went to significantly higher rate springs on my coilovers. Car is very stiff now. I was spitting out my fender liners on high speed corner exits. Car is seeing 1.9g corner loads at times. I am still making small changes in suspension little by little. But yea, it is a 1900lb car and fully analog. No power steeting, ABS is disabled, no stability control. YOU drive this car and it tells you so much. It is the most fun car I have ever driven on track. My lambo is faster but this car you actually drive. It pushes all the right buttons.

Ok, you are right on that. But it does this quite well....and picks up quite a bit of rubber in the process. No jumps needed.

My goal with the car is to keep street legal.

It is still on DOT Street tires. Just went to Falken Azenit RT660's. 200 series. Used to run Toyo 888. Have one track day under my belt and the Falkens are better in my opinion.

My issue with getting hoosiers for it, is I have to find another set of wheels and Hoosier does not make a slick in similar sizes and I would have to make some changes and find something that would work. Because of the wide-body, the wheels were made to order with custom offsets. Work wheels out of Japan would take who knows how long to get a set made plus they would cost about 4-5k. I am not a professional racer and just out for fun enjoyable times. I dont feel the need to make the jump to slicks anytime soon as I still have lots of room for improvement besides more grip. Plus slicks will heat cycle out long before they wear out on a car like the lotus that is so light. Currently running 275's on rear and 215 up front. That is A LOT of tire under a car like this. Dont forget it only weighs 1900lbs. I have been keeping a closer eye on tire temps and believe I am getting proper temps in rears. They are so big I was feeling like they might not come up to temp properly. But I think I have too much neg camber in right now.

Given that we only track about once a month, I only make one change/adjustment at a time or you cant tell the results. You can never drive the car hard enough on the street to diagnose, so I wait till next track day to see how things go. This track day, I am running about a 20% increase in spring rate. Next adjustment may be front sway bar or rear camber depending on how the car feels at steering limit.

Lotus is as British as it get. Tremendous racing history under it's founder Colin Chapman. He essentially was a revolutionary in F1 racing for years and brought his knowlege to production cars. The Elise/Exige is a unique project. It is built like a pre-carbon fiber F1 car with a full bonded aluminum chassis tub. Pretty amazing car and a famous Lotus saying is "add lightness". Everything about the car is built to be lightweight. Compare it to a S2000 (similar size sports car) and the Lotus is 900lbs lighter! Almost 1/3 lighter.

I have really fallen in love with the car. They are all hand made, so working on them is quite nice. The 'clams' come off completely and give you access to everything.

They must like you! In my state is an AUTOMATIC one year loss of license if you get caught over 100. No getting out of it even with the best lawyer if they write it.

I have been very lucky and not gotten pulled over in years, but that recently changed. Having my 76 year old mother in the car saved meAnd he let me go!

Bro one of the cops fist bumped me and was like “ima check out your car! I want one so bad!” Didn’t even tell me to slow down all he said was “gotcha! Just joking I just wanna see your car and invest in a valentine radar” I was going 116 lmao

I got a brand new set of tires and on carbon rims it just grips and handles so good.

Idk man I’m lucky, when I was 19 I got pulled over a total of 14 times when I had a clue trans am ls2 swapped, cammed, 305s, straight pipes,

Total of 0 tickets

I’m a big ass dude, but I look like military, I ALWAYS pull over calmly, out of traffic for cop to walk to me, both hands on wheel, roll window down, turn car off and look straight ahead

It works 100% so far lol

I got pulled over just this morning going 103, straight warning, this one wasn’t friendly either, definitely prior military but just said “here’s a warning be safe man” and walked away lol

Saw that video before, my mom would’ve freaked out, did your mom ever ride with you again after that lmao

GT500 is an INCREDIBLE car. Will run with 3RS all day long on track. I have a buddy who uses one as his track car. Only issue is he goes though a full set of tires in one track day. A 3RS will give you 3 full days. My lotus...well I can run and long heat cycle the tires out LONG before I wear them out. The lotus literally weighs 1/2 of what a GT500 weighs.

This is my buddies car after he realized his tires were gone. We went to the skid pad and he finished them off. Ended up blowing one of the rears and taking out the tire and the rear ABS wiring!

Then my buddy with his SVJ got in the act. He burned off his tires too! Little harder to drift the AWD SVJ. At the end of the vid you can see the rubber chunks coming off the tires. Fun day!
