I heard about this the other day. Just lol.
Of course it's all a part of the plan. The auto industry lobbyists are the ones who pushed for the credit in the first place with a plan in place to get that money.

Was just thinking about this in the last day, how the automakers game the system. BRB always waiting to price newest model year of EV around whether the tax credit gets extended or not. Looks like the credit won't get extended, pricing the base version EV sedan at $32K. Tax credit gets extended, price it at $37K so you can advertise how it costs under $30K***
***after tax credit in tiny print.
It would have sold at profit at $32K, now an extra $5K in profit coming through. Sweet. Are the automakers buying back their own stock at record levels like every other large corporation in the US? I'm just curious.

The Democrats new trillion dollar bill does make EVs more expensive. As I read also, the Democrats war on fossil fuels, and the mining industry mining for materials to make EVs while making costs higher doesn't help improve the environment.
"Fossil-fuel price spikes are causing pain but little climate payoff"
https://nypost.com/2022/06/19/fossil...cid=1e04bb28ce
excerpt:
For three decades, climate campaigners have fought to make fossil fuels so expensive that people would be forced to abandon them. Their dream is becoming reality: Energy prices are spiraling out of control and will soon get even worse. Yet we are no closer to solving climate change.
Energy costs increased 26% across industrialized economies last year and will rise globally by another 50% this year. While Western governments are blaming Russia’s war on Ukraine, prices were already rising because of climate policies designed to choke fossil-fuel investment. Since the 2015 Paris agreement was inked, the world’s 1,200 biggest energy corporations have slashed capital investment in oil and gas by more than two-thirds. Huge price rises are the inevitable result of forcing more energy out of an increasingly starved system.
The climate-policy approach of trying to push consumers and businesses away from fossil fuels with price spikes is causing pain with little climate payoff, for two reasons.
First, solar and wind are still only capable of meeting a fraction of global electricity needs. Even with huge subsidies and political support, solar and wind delivered just 9% of global electricity in 2020. Heating, transport and vital industrial processes account for much more energy use than electricity. This means solar and wind deliver just 1.8% of global energy supply. And electricity is the easiest of these components to decarbonize: We haven’t yet made meaningful progress greening the remaining four-fifths of global energy.
Second, even in the rich parts of the world it is clear few people are willing to pay the phenomenal price of achieving net-zero carbon emissions. Soaring prices are hiking energy poverty in industrialized economies, and prices are set to climb even further. Germany is on track to spend more than a half-trillion dollars on climate policies by 2025 yet has only managed to reduce fossil-fuel dependency from 84% in 2000 to 77% today. McKinsey estimates getting to zero carbon will cost Europe 5.3% of its GDP in low-emission assets every year — for Germany, more than $200 billion annually. That’s more than Germany spends annually on education and police, courts and prisons combined.
Western leaders can’t continue to push expensive policies without a backlash. As energy prices soar, risks grow of resentment and strife, like France saw with the “yellow vest” protest movement.
For the poorest billions, rising energy prices are even more serious because they block the pathway out of poverty and make fertilizer unaffordable for farmers, imperiling food production. The well-off in rich countries might be able to withstand the pain of some climate policies, but emerging economies like India or low-income countries in Africa cannot afford to sacrifice poverty eradication and economic development to tackle climate change.....

So now your electric car will only cost 72k instead of 80. what a bargain!!
Cant afford $5 gas, simply spend 80k on an electric car, problem solved. Live in an apartment? just buy a house and then an electric car so you have some place to plug it in. No money for these things, just get a really high paying job.
See how simple these things are to solve. Hell, I should be a politician.

The thing that sucks about EVs is they were supposed to cost the same as gas powered vehicles by now. But I wouldn't hold my breath. Tesla's model 3 was supposed to be under $30K by now. They're no longer able to get the tax credits. I think the average Model 3 is selling for $45-50K, which is a lot for a vehicle the same size as a Honda Civic.
Not to mention, prices for EV battery components have gone way up. So the vehicles have to cost more. I used to think EVs were an inevitability. Unless they move away from needing lithium there's zero chance they become significant worldwide.

No surprises here. Every porkulus by the left is targeted to pay back their donors so the donors can donate even more so the commies can win more elections.
Pretty neat scheme. Using everybody's taxes to for campaign funding.
