Credit cards hobby

I'm surprised there isn't a credit card hobby thread here on the misc. I've reaped so many rewards by playing the game...business class tickets, free hotel nights, cash back...

People here seem to like nice things. I'm wondering how many here participate in this?

True, there are more rules now, but you can still do it, as long as you know what they are.

Actually, my last card I got was an AMEX Platinum that got me a 150k membership rewards points bonus that I used to stay at a Ritz Carlton for 3 nights for free. I did it under a Fine Hotels program Amex offers so we got us

- $80 a day for free breakfast
- a $100 hotel credit to use however we wanted (used it for dinner at their restaurant), - 4pm checkout, and a room upgrade.
- $200 off the stay.

All of this was worth around $2000.

There are deals to be had, they just have to be researched.

I've still done it to some success between Southwest and some Hotel chains pretty recently. Sword had a thread on it a few years back that was pretty big. It's funny, I'd refer my wife for a card...get the referrel bonus points, she'd get the high Intro bonus points and then I'd cancel mine. Seems like within 5 months they are offering me a card again as we repeat.

I’ve made some bonuses worth thousands. The sapphire had a 100k bonus last year that was worth close to 5k with my Hyatt transfer. That doesn’t include the room upgrades I got for being globalist.

Anyway I follow quite a few blogs on this. I get free flights working for an airline so I try to maximize it for hotels. I’ve got 5 cards for everyday spend and am looking into going the business card route for some promos. Next year I’m going to leverage bonuses to get top tier elite status with Hilton, Hyatt, and aiming for a mid to
Top tier with Marriot. The points I get on top of it is gravy.

I value free time with my family & hobbies more than whatever potential rewards I could get by churning credit cards.

I forgot Amex terms but with chase most you can every 24/48 months. I just downgrade it to a no fee card wait a month or two and then reapply.

Lame. Plenty of other ones at least. Thankfully chase is pretty lenient as long as you have good credit and don’t go over 5 new cards in 24 months. But I don’t push things that hard so no issue there.

I put a car on one of those offers lol. I bought it from enterprise so it coded as car rental too which earned me a ridiculous amount of points. I paid it off over a year. Worked out perfectly.

churning is almost impossible cause these companies caught on

right now, i'm using Delta amex and racking up miles. Couple other cards i'm looking into atm, American Airlines seems to have decent rates.

I have an Amex Delta Reserve for the free companion ticket (can be used for first class tickets s well). It also gives me access to the Delta lounge, but so does my Amex Platinum. With my Platinum I get $200 airlines credit that I use to bring companions into the lounge - it covers the fee up to that $200.

Delta miles are pretty useless imo. I'd much rather rack up Chase points or someting and transfer to an airline when you find a good redemption. Then get the platinum card for lounge access and whatnot.

I discovered how useless Delta miles are but I do like the companion ticket that comes with Amex Reserve, plus I fly Delta direct to DTW regularly. I should put all my effort into Chase/United but sometimes they piss me off and I have to fly Delta for a while. Until THEY piss me off.

I admit, I'm not the best at the credit card game, but I have gotten a LOT of free sh*t.

I've been doing cash as a reward because I've never had many flights to get miles. What is a good exchange rate if I was looking to exchange for miles instead of cash at some point? Like a miles per $100 breakpoint that makes it a good deal?

I bought 2 from Hertz and 1 from Enterprise and never had any issue. Enterprise tried to give me 4 mismatched off brand tires and I drove back and threatened to return the car so they put on 4 new ones. Still **** tires but at least they all match with even wear. The cars are well maintained and I got lower mileage ones though so they weren't beat up over 30k miles or anything. I got one that only had 9k miles that ended up totaled 2 years later and insurance wrote me a check for more than I paid for the car lol.

What kind of poverty rental cars have you been getting? Most of the ones I have driven are 10k miles or less. I had one the other day that has 200 miles on it with a temp plate and that’s far from the first time that’s happened.

I make this up with Membership Rewards points I gain throughout the year, plus there are a lot of credits they offer that make up for the annual fee. That's why so many people have this card, and why the Delta and Centurian airport lounges are so crowded.

Haven't done much this year; too many inquiries on my credit report. But I typically average $2k in cash back + intro awards per year. Relatively easy to do and it's free money.

But I pretty much use my Costco and Capital One Venture for everything. Just simpler. May try for a hotel card next since the bonuses are so juicy.

Too lazy to find out every rewards(sometimes the banks wont email me). But I have 4 cards so I just use whichever that has certain deals. If none, I just rake up points or cashbacks.

Now one of my cards has free Micky Ds chicken meal + burger every $60 spent. Lol.

I've been churning checking accounts recently since I used BoA for 10 years and decided to branch out. Got about $1k doing that opening a Capital One, TD Ameritrade, and Fifth Third accounts. Now its credit cards.

Probably looking at the Capital One Venture, Chase Freedom Unlimited, and Amex Platinum for bonuses. Venture probably has the best bonus/annual fee ratio.

There are so many perks on the Platinum though - TSA Precheck / Clear / 5% off Flights / Lounge Access / $20 credits/mo for subscriptions, uber / other credits I haven't mentioned.

The $695 pays itself off tbh
