Any bros have experience with the S&W SD9VE?

Fellas, looking to pick up a new cheaper full-size (don't have a W&C permit just yet) handgun to keep in the nightstand safe, just something mostly fun to shoot and reliable without breaking the bank.

Eventually will be getting the W&C and at that time I'll likely pick up a Sig P365 for carrying. As those are great, but not looking to get the Sig just yet.

Debating picking up the S&W SD9VE and an Apex trigger kit (total cost is about $420) to keep in the nightstand and a reliable pistol to take to the range. Trying to stay under that $450 price point as I'm going to be buying multiples anyway.

Any of you guys use/own/shoot a SD9VE or is there a better, reliable alternative at that price point?

I like it wish I would have got the 40cal though, a lot of people loathe the trigger though

That's what I've read, which is where the Apex trigger kit comes in (I've seen it for about $50-$60). It's supposed to cut a couple pounds off the pull.

I know it's comfortable in my hands since I've used almost exclusively that model handgun as an airsoft sidearm for years now, but was curious about other real life users feedback on the trigger.

I have that in the 40. The trigger is probably the worst thing about it. tough pull. I've never taken the time to figure out what needs done to get the pull down but then I would like it a lot more. It also seems bulky so hard to conceal carry. If you take the hard pull and the bulk for conceal carry out of the equation then it is a decent piece for the price.

Trigger pull is the major downfall I hear. Is it THAT bad, or does it just take some getting used to? How's the accuracy with the heavy pull?

Yes, it's bad. Accuracy takes a hit. I have found it to be reliable though. I have probably put 400-500 rounds through it with no jams.

I had a S&W Smegma (Sigma) back in like 2005. The trigger was god awful. Other than that didn't have a problem with it. I sold it like a year later and never looked back.

Just get a police trade in glock or m&p, you can find those for 400 or cheaper.

Edit: classic firearms has a bunch of gen 4 glock 22s for $400, aims has them for $329

Arguing stopping power with modern SD rounds is a meh point at best, specially when youre talking 10-15 rounds.

Fire what you feel most comfortable with that gets the most holes on target in an accurate manner. And what you can afford to shoot the *most* with.

SD9VE crew.

It's a very well-built gun, especially for the price. It's been totally reliable for me, and I love the grip. But the trigger is DOGCHIT. I Apex'd it, and it's still dogchit.

For the money, I would rather buy one of those single-stack 9mm Glocks, like the Glock 48. They seem really fukkin handy.

Notoriously bad trigger, it's my sidearm and debated just selling it but my uncle got my 16 round mags so I'd feel guilty. Instead I decided I just need to get use to the bad trigger. The main reason it sucks is it can throw off your aim, but my theory is that can be minimized by practice, and you don't even have to shoot. I just aim and dryfire it a bit to get use to it. I'm not gonna pay for that kit cause for one I hear it doesn't even help all that much and for another the gun doesn't have a safety. I don't like that it's so big for ccw but I do like 16 round mags
