Should the US be bracing for higher energy prices this winter?

I live in a rural area so my furnace runs on propane. I saw the following article that stated costs could rise up to 54% this year

I would guess natural gas would have similar increases, if not more?

Anybody using wood stoves? I'm curious how much it costs to go that route for the winter
I have a wood pellet stove that heats my whole house for about 1200$ a season, whereas with propane I would be spending well over 3000$ this year.

Probably, but I'm not sure about the percentage. Propane is refined from crude oil which we all know is more expensive but declining. Plus the costs to truck it out, including diesel for the delivery truck, wage for the driver etc are up from 1-2 years ago. The cost of firewood will be more expensive this year too though.

I'd guess US sourced/supplied natural gas won't be as bad since it's mostly moved by pipeline, and just less expensive overall.

I'm on natty gas and planning to use as normal, I don't have a big house. I could see people with 3000+ square ft houses paying $600-$1000 for a single cold month to heat their home this year.

I use a wood stove to heat my house

I fill the trunk of my car with wood most times I go to visit my parents' acreage, so I never pay for it. A cord of even fir is like 300 and oak is like 500

This year I have enough to not use any other source of fuel but you gotta be a man to do it, because the amount of work is insane compared to pushing a button. Great way to burn energy while cutting tho

I process it all with a bow saw and axes

The Democrats are in power and they want to see Americans paying higher energy prices so imagine this winter energy costs will be high. Hope it isn't one of those long cold winters. When i lived in the mid-west those were the worst.

Don’t know how firewood is typically priced but I’d expect lumber prices to stay down as higher interest rates subdue housing starts, lower home equity subdues home improvement projects, etc

Interesting site OP, propane isn’t something I generally look at or think about much

Pretty sure that prices for propane accessories are also way up

Yellen Says US Back on Track to Ending Fossil-Fuels Dependence
The law, signed by President Joe Biden on Aug. 16, “represents the largest investment in fighting climate change in our country’s history,” Yellen will say, according to an excerpt provided to Bloomberg News.

“It will put us well on our way toward a future where we depend on the wind, sun and other clean sources for our energy,” she plans to say. “We will rid ourselves from our current dependence on fossil fuels and the whims of autocrats like Putin,” she said, referring to the Russian president.

The speech represents an attempt to re-frame the Biden administration’s push to cut emissions from fossil fuels, which has come under fire from Republicans after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine caused oil prices to spike. Republicans have said the president’s hostility toward increasing crude production in the US has helped worsen the situation.

Biden and Yellen have countered that the price spike represents more reason to move away from fossil fuels.

In my area in 2020 the price per dekatherm for natural gas was $1.85. Now the price per dekatherm is $8.69. These are the prices the gas companies buy at so you know customers are screwed.

You know what’s ironic is that wood has the highest emissions, but these “green” policies are pushing us away from lower emissions to the higher emission options.

Just think, natural gas is literally a waste product of domestic oil production. Literal garbage that's used for a purpose, yet it's getting more expensive. Good job voting dems
