Bought my first car to flip, Should i buy a new windshield or leqve it cracked?

Trying to get into the flipping game for fun and work up my way to low level exotics in a few years.

I got a 2016 sedan at an auction, great price but it had scratched fenders, doors and other minor repairs. Already had everything repaired but the windshield which has a 20 inch crack

Should i get a new one for $150 USD (installation included) or leave it cracked and try to sell it as it is

Flipping cars can be a good way to make a couple hundred or grand but its not a reliable source of income in my experience.

And you often have to have alot of specialized tools and its hard work.

What's the car?
What did you pay?
What's your budget to clean it up/fix?
What do you think you can sell it for?

Have the windshield replaced. It's a **** job to do yourself. Will be easier to sell without a cracked windshield.

If I go to buy a car and it has a 20" crack in the windshield I'm 180 outta there. If it's only $150 you'll get at least the $150 extra out of it when you sell it.

Not planning to live off it but want to flip exotics for fun, drive them for a few weeks and then sell them, easier to learn the ropes with beaters

- A ford fiesta, paid around 89.000 MXN
- Unlimited budget but its fair market price is around 130-140k MXN
- total repairs and costs are at $350 USD at this point (already done) and will be $500 USD if i repair the windshield, which is around 10.000 MXN

All said and done i stand to make a profit of 1 to 2k USD (1k usd = 20k mxn) depending on how low i sell

It does but the carfax has to be clean, the Mexican version is also buying above market price but wont buy cars that came from an auction. So i have to flip this one privately

Not a bad price to have it done. It is a chit job.
The prep work cleaning the old sealant is the hardest.

It would be harder to sell with a bad windshield. That and dirty or worn interiors are the toughest to sell.

This is the first time i got a vehicle at an auction and also the first time i had to get repairs done. Wont lie the vehicle has totally fuked aesthetics but it is now looking decent

All the other “flips” i have done this year were repair-less, bought from privately owned and sold to carvana and thats my plan with luxury vehicles

Did you do any kind of research on how well that Fiesta sells in your market?

I had a buddy who used to vacation at his mom's house in the canary islands with friends before I met him. They would take the rental insurance and drive cars around the island like stuntmen, flipping, crashing, etc. Eventually they went through everyone and weren't allowed to rent cars anymore.

I thouht this thread was going to be about something else.

There are no titles in Mexico, cars are tied to their original invoice here. I understand your point thought, my invoice has an addendum saying it was a repossession and re invoiced to me

Not sure how it is in Mexico but in the US I have found that a “beater” being a manual really shrinks your pool of buyers. In my experience, it just takes longer to find a buyer. Since this is just a small side hustle, it shouldn’t be a problem. For this an future flips, you should absolutely fix these kinds of easy cosmetic issues. I’m surprised you’d consider not fixing. You want a private party price, not a fixer-upper price. Make it look appealing and ready to go.
