Nope. This has been done 100% by design. Slowly make regular forums too expensive for a person not making a business out of it to maintain, then consolidate all conversations to one place, which is Reddit where only certain kinds of talk are allowed. None of this was an accident.

What you're saying is the equivalent of wanting to make a company that rivals Amazon. Its been tried and has always failed, and the ones that are still around are ghost towns. Lowly asteroids drifting out into the nothingness of space.

What usually happens is, the only gimmick you'll have that sets you a part is you allow people to say and post whatever they want which leads to porn and gore, and assassination threats against political leaders, and CP which alienates people that browse from work. Then you'll have legitimate racist groups coming on there talking about the jews and ethnic cleansing and all that bullchit. All it would take is one twitter user with nothing better to do with their time to stumble across your forum and they'll advocate for your site to get cancelled. One thing will lead to another and the HOSTING site will cave to their demands.

You can't stop reddit. It has eaten up ALL the niche vBulletin style forums of the early 2000's. It was fun while it lasted, but unfortunately reddit (or at least reddit "style" forums) are the future.

I have a nephew thats a zoomer. He doesn't even use youtube that much. Apparently even youtube is an "old people" site, and oddly I kinda get where he's coming from. If i'm looking for a video on how to hickory smoke a salmon on a grill on youtube, I have to sit through some 15 minute video with ads (even with an ad blocker the content creator themself will most likely throw in some advertisement for "Nord VPN" or "Raid Shadow Legends") followed by a personalized 10 second intro and the dude telling me to"like and subscribe and hit the bell"then another 8 minutes setting chit up and giving unnecessary information about his life and his dogs or some chit.

On the other hand, the same steps on how to cook this damn piece of fish can be explained in its entirety in a 1 minute tiktok.

This is exactly why youtube are dumb fuks. They basically normalised every video being like a tv show (brb intro music, brb ads)

Just look for shorter videos. If you see it's 15 minutes, you know it's probably mostly advertising.

No web 2.0 took over with the user generated content and media driven apps

Forums started to die around 2010 but the nail in the coffin was around 2014 when everyone got a smart phone and the apps became very sophisticated

Even reddit is nothing compared to the other apps. But the app is still very good and you get push notifications so people use it over v bulletin

Enjoy frying your attention span. You can find relatively short videos on youtube as well. I prefer it because I don't have the attention span of a fish and don't mind hearing a short backstory or seeing someone else's perspective if it provides value. Just look at how long the video is and take it from there.

And so what if it's someone talking for a little bit. What do you guys want...to deal with humans as little as possible? You'd really rather hear that stupid tiktok voice instruct you? This world is screwed.

I don't use TT for everything. You're right, sometimes I want to hear exposition/a story that goes along with my content, but other times I just want some instructions to get to the damn point (cooking recipes/performing tasks in Excel/enabling or disabling features on my phone), etc.

Its people 21 and younger that control the trends on the internet because they tend to be the ones with the most time to be ON the internet. Its always been that way. At one time the internet catered to us Millennials (ex; bbs forums/vBulletin) and now that we're "old" (in our 30's) the younger generation is here to mold the shape of the internet to their liking and it happens to involve 1-3 minute videos explaining things.
