Federal charges filed over Covid 19 charity fraud-$250 million

The Department of Justice announced today federal criminal charges against 47 defendants for their alleged roles in a $250 million fraud scheme that exploited a federally-funded child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was a brazen scheme of staggering proportions,โ€ said U.S. Attorney Andrew M. Luger for the District of Minnesota. โ€œThese defendants exploited a program designed to provide nutritious food to needy children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, they prioritized their own greed, stealing more than a quarter of a billion dollars in federal funds to purchase luxury cars, houses, jewelry, and coastal resort property abroad.

That should be a start. Those were the big players probably banking $1M each, but there were so many, most of which who only took a few thousand. They should get them all.

I was going through the list of PPP loans for my area. (public record online)
One small personal trainer claimed 26 employees on payroll and got 1.6 million
They have three reviews on google and are in a one bar retail store front.

I'm actually involved with sniffing out fraud in the PPP loans here in DC. Can't really say how but i'm on the data science side.
