Someone please explain the appeal of Casey Neistat

I tried to watch him...he seems like a nice guy. 12.4 million subscribers and people treat him like a god.

Please, can someone explain this? Am I weird for not getting it?

I don't get it either. He seems annoying, and full of himself.


I get it that he's a talented videographer I guess. But there's a million of talented videographers. Peter Mckinon is much better.

I can't get through his latest video.

He's been doing it for over a decade and used to do daily videos for a year. It was early on the YouTube scene, on the daily vlog scene. He's a good videographer and some of his videos are pretty good. "Time in the market" so to speak, a lot of people have grown up watching the guy.

It's mostly inoffensive content, it's advertiser friendly. People have taken a liking to him and his style. I don't know, if you don't like it then you don't like it. I used to watch his chit 7/8 years ago, then NormalBobSmith and the Union Square crew (lulz). I personally don't find his stuff of interest but it's well produced and he's got a certain formula to his videos. I think a lot of folks are invested into him, his wife and wider family too so it's that familiarity.

I randomly saw a video of him and his brother, or vice versa. Apparently everyone thinks his brother is like a creative videography savant or something.

While I would never watch any of their stuff, and haven't besides those 2 random videos about their story, I can see the appeal to some extent. Not for me or most people because he seems kind of retarded and annoying, but for certain people, sure

It seems like they were the front runners that popularized an entire style of videos. Vlogging among other things. I think they used to do video work back in the day for high profile people or something. It's been a while since I watched those videos on them.

I would say if you are into videography and are a hipster, they're up your alley.

Once they get a certain number of subs and views, it becomes an avalanche and the sheep just follow and watch what everybody else says is popular.

He's above average youtube wise, but that's not saying much given 30% of Youtube videos are shot on Nokia 3310...which don't have cameras

I never considered this theory. Makes sense given the critical mass, and eventually Youtube algo just shows it to more and more people as it becomes more and more trendy. Smart

Watched him back when he was doing a video every day. Pretty well made videos but never understood how he could pull that many subs and views.

Yeah, he was early on the scene and did videos not many were doing at the time. He's rich now.
