Pretty sure I just got scammed at the dentist

Went in for a cleaning last week since I hadn't been in years. The hygienist looks at my teeth and immediately recommends a "deep cleaning" and says they wont do the regular cleaning. So i went in for the "deep cleaning" today and they basically took a tool and destroyed all my gums and charged me $300. After the procedure they recommended I go in ever 3-4 months for a cleaning. Sounds like they just want me to be a repeat customer. The procedure is supposed to treat gum disease but seems counterproductive to me. I now have less gums since they used a tool to destroy them and make them bleed. Now I have to wait for the gums to "reattach".

I got x-rayed, teeth cleaned, fluoride treatment yesterday for $230. Also, who the fuk goes for a cleaning every three months? I go maybe every 6-8 months and don't need no deep cleaning.

Do you not have dental insurance? Also.. you should be getting regular cleanings every 6 month at the very least to avoid those deep cleanings.. they probably yanked out so much junk... Yuck.

Dentists are only good for curing a problem. And the vast majority of problems will either present themselves glaringly or were created by unhealthy diets. If you dont have issues, dont go. The fact they want to give you a "really good flossing" every quarter should tell you this.

Saw something about paleo jaw bones showing better teeth alignment and health in ancient times. Probably because our deits shifted from raw veggies and meat to soft sugar semi solids since the 60's lol.

I was being funny but I actually know a dentist that scammed and screwed up a lot of people's teeth.

you probably had a ton of plaque built up and they did a periodontal cleaning, which involves them using a tool to dig inside your gums and scrape off that plaque, which is why your gums feel like they're destroyed.

I had to do it once, when I didn't go to the dentists for 4 years. Been going back every 6 months since and haven't needed it once. Your gums will heal lol, it's not like they sliced off a layer.

“Deep Cleaning” is the new scam, you never heard of this BS 10 yrs ago. Most everyone I know that has great teeth & no issues go down to Mexico, 1/4 of the cost, and no scams. Srs. I take good care of my teeth but if I ever have an issue, I’m going there, tired of supporting corruption.

dental hygienist here. Chances are you had a ton of buildup (plaque and tartar) above and below the gum line. this buildup initiates the inflammatory response in your body to your gums and eventually destroys the bone, gums, and fibers that keep the tooth in your mouth. The reason you bled so much is because of that same inflammation. To get the cleaning completed they may have had to wreck your gums a little. they undergo healing after the cleaning. the pocket between your gums and tooth will be smaller and the cleaning effectively removed all inflammatory agents. they recommended 3-4 months because your condition was probably really bad. Just brush your teeth 2x daily and floss 2x daily and you dont have to go every 3-4 months. If im being honest if you are really on top of your oral hygiene you can go every 8-12 months but you wont hear that from other hygienists.

Get a water flosser and search up how to brush properly. its really really easy. Looking in people's mouths i can tell you that men are really ****ing **** at keeping their mouth clean. Every time i get a male client i know im gonna have to do more work.

Not a scam, they just gave you a good clean. I actually like going to the dentist for a clean, feels great getting that built up plaque removed.

I know, I was latching onto your post as a base for pointing out the scam that is regular cleanings at high costs and how our teeth health is highly correlated to our diets, go figure. Obviouslly you werent being serious about the ivermectin, besides if you wanted to stay cavity free you would take Vit D3 and wear a N95.

Sounds like you need to get your teeth cleaned more often, I waited 3 years for mine and ended up having a small case of tooth decay, Luckily my dentist was able to save it with a crown but that would've been a very expensive lesson if we had to go down the route of root canal

Srs question, how do you even let it get that bad in the first place? Aren’t symptoms obvious from the get-go when a cavity starts forming? I can feel a cavity even beginning, so I focus on that tooth to prevent it from worsening.

My wife managed a dental practice before she became a stay at home mom after our last kid and I’ve learned enough from her to know that you didn’t get scammed. You really should be getting cleanings every 6 months. If it had been years since your last cleaning you probably had some serious gingivitis going on

This is why you don't go years without going to the dentist. Have been going every 6 months since I was a child and have perfect teeth. A lot of times I go every 4 months. My dentist lives 3 houses down from me and is a close family friend.

Also this. best bet is to go twice a year and use a dental pick for plaque since it calcifies to where you can't just floss with string to get that chit out.
