Is the Fed letting MBS fall off or selling MBS?
If selling MBS, who is buying? Why would an investor want to take those on when unemployment is going to go up?

I think their plan is rolloffs. They are doing the all of the balance sheet taper chit as slowly as possible.
They really don't want to go for houses, for the reason you've said. For banks, writing mortgages is fun when they can just immediately sell the note to the Fed and keep the origination fees. It's fukking ghey when they have to assume the liability and collect from broke wagies.
